Hi Gary. I'm mesmerized by this picture of the kids playing by the wall.

Franco T!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
Franco Twinkie:

..and I love the music too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Franco Twinkie:

All these primitive electro sounds are so quaint and wonderful. They don't exactly create a sense of menace at this remove. If that was even the point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Gary:

Yeah, I think these guys in particular are having a lot of fun; spiritual cousins w/Messer fur Frau Muller, kind of
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Franco Twinkie:

I can help imagine what kind of gear they had at their disposal. Kind of like some of the earliest Devo.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
WR:

This aggregation, AG Geige, is quite theatrical.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
chresti:

I was just thinking that, WR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Gary:

Residents Commercial Album-sounding here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Franco Twinkie:

Mid-range clatter. No bass I can discern. Plus all the tinker-toy ratcheting is very amusing.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
WR:

And i too have looked repeatedly at the kids by the wall photo. Looking for any clues as to circumstances. Being not so tall, don't think it is The wall, but still something serious with the barbed wire topping.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
chresti:

I like the Messer fur Alle or something..Schlager
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Franco Twinkie:

WR, you just know that kids been kids, they were always flinging all sorts of crap over to the other side.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
chresti:

Would they get electrocuted if they touched the wire?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Franco Twinkie:

I have two friends who were there when the wall came down. They both said the people crossing over were giddy and disoriented.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
WR:

Yes, my brothers would be throwing all kinds of things over, the photo appears to be by Henri Cartier-Bresson, made soon after the Berlin Wall was erected.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
chresti:

Where are those kids now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chresti loves noise music, me not so much, but this is oddly compelling to me. I guess it's lack of sonic abrasion is what I like.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
chresti:

Some not all noise.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
chresti:

I guess the kids grew up and started bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Ike:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Gary:

Ike!
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
WR:

Your question about the kids in the photo (who would be about my age) reminds me of article in NYT in 2019 for the 30th anniversary of the wall coming down that in part was an interview with a man who was in an iconic photo of East Germans celebrating the wall coming down. People had focused on the photo as being similar to the end of WWII Times Square photo of a sailor kissing a nurse.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm
WR:

While the sailor and nurse didn't know each other, the young East Germans were friends. The man said he had lost track of his woman friend within a year or so after the wall came down. His life had turned out pretty grim.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 9:25pm
WR:

This band, Wartburgs für Walter, definitely inspired by Brit. punk bands.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
WR:

Would assume most of these were originally distributed on cassettes.
Avatar 9:30pm
tim abdellah:

The last Wartburgs track sounds like a tape loop manipulation of "When The Whip Comes Down" by the Rolling Stones

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
coelacanth∅:

regarding questions about the wall earlier -
the wall started out smaller, less treacherous and gradually got added to over time, so this picture is probably c.1961-62?
and the electricity wasn't added yet, but when it was it wasn't to the wires immediately accessible to the people.
