Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Little Danny:

Ahhh man Johnny Paycheck's vocals can't be beat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Matt Fiveash:

Man do I love these Johnny Paycheck sides! I think it was Il Bruce who dubbed him "Buck Owens without the medication"
Avatar 8:10pm

When you get to the S's will you include any of Stallone's songs from "Rhinestone"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Becky:

@mariano I will if you send me the 45

Show is sounding amazing TY
Avatar 8:15pm
slugluv1313:

greetings, Becky and everyone!
Avatar 8:16pm
slugluv1313:

@ mariano -- omg i did NOT know that about "Rhinestone"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
mariano:

Hah! Not the answer I was expecting, Becky :) Don't know if you know about "Rhinestone" but it was an 80s movie with Stallone and Dolly Parton, where she's tasked with turning him (he's an NYC cabbie) into a country musician. It was about as ill-conceived as it sounds. The only thing I remember about it is Dolly saying to Sly that his jeans were so tight she could see his pulse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Smokestack:

Spoiler Alert: Rhinestone ends with a big musical number where, in fact, Stallone becomes the country music star Dolly dreams him to be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Matt Fiveash:

Becky- is the Johnny Paycheck Hilltop stuff pre- or post- Little Darlin'? I guess I could look it up but I'd rather annoy you while you're trying to cue up 2 minute records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Becky:

1) How is it possible that I have never heard of this cinematic masterpiece 2) is it on Prime or whatever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Power Papi:

Wait...a king-size WHAT??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Becky:

@Fiveash I believe right before LD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Matt Fiveash:

Copy that.
  8:24pm
BH:

on checking Wikipedia.. I'm sure Stallone was busy in the early 80s.. but 1984 seems like a year or two late to catch the back-end of the Urban Cowboy trend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Little Danny:

Not to cut Becky off with my teacher's pet waving hand but Matt I think the Hilltop stuff was his debut
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Becky:

This reminds me, I still need to do my taxes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Matt Fiveash:

"I've had every ailment known to man, from the African mumps to the dishpan hands" is one of the greatest lines ever penned
  8:27pm
BH:

would an hour be enough time for a show about country musicians who had to battle tax evasion charges?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Smokestack:

@Becky Who would have thought you could still get a fine VHS selection on Amazon these days: www.amazon.com...
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

@UM - That model coffee grinder you mentioned on the previous show seems to be out of stock everywhere.
Also: Hi, Becky and honkers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
mariano:

Becky: doesn't seem to be on any of the main streaming services. I'm sure there's many a good deal on a VHS copy though, they'll probably pay you to take one ;)
  8:28pm
BH:

gotta love that new and used are the exact same price for that VHS copy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Scott Williams:

I wish Thurl woulda recorded my jingle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
mariano:

What's that one purposely funny rockabilly song where the singer starts laughing about the ridiculously excessive reverb? Like a rockabilly parody song, but from the 50s (guessing from the production).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Scott Williams:

@mariano, this isn't it, but reminds me of that great Andy Partridge miniature "the history of rock n'roll", where he makes a single sound to represent each decade from the 50s to 80s. The 50s is a hiccup swathed in echo
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Handy Haversack:

Holy crap, does this show sound good right now. It's been an EVENING. Gonna have taco night now -- but THANKS, Becky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

No such thing as excessive reverb, ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Bootsie:

I think this is my fave Charlie Rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Becky:

There's a great video of CR doing this live on...one of the shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Bootsie:

@Becky I'll look for it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
mariano:

Ooh, I'll have to look for that, Scott!

Thanks Becky, thanks Scott, take care everyone!
  8:55pm
BH:

I was listening to an American Top 40 episode that was a 1974 best-of and Casey was ready with a brief Charlie Rich background story for his appearances in the top 100 of that year.

Joe Kyle Jr.:

Thanks for putting together another fabulous show! Enjoying it from SF, CA

@ mariano -- YES i was thinking the same thing!
FMU could stream Rhinestone . . . AND screen it at Monty Hall, whenever things get back to some sort of "normal"
