I live pretty close to the river but I can’t get to it near me. I have to go a few miles upriver to The Fly, an open space on the river in Audubon Park.

I saw Odetta at Castle Clinton in Battery Park at a free show in the summer. I saw so many good shows there in the late 90s/early 00s.

I'll say Larry and Matt. It sounds like it's taken from one of those low budget lps of sound alike covers from when the song first came out.

As far as I know the Short-Kuts were a white, Memphis-based soul/rock band. They had a couple of 45s

I Called Him Morgan was a fantastic documentary about Lee & his common law wife who murdered him.

Still in Memphis. I figured it was somewhere there based on the LP name. It was sounding like a Chips Moman production so I should have known.

i was inspired to google this, indeed that the first released record of " Is That All There Is" but not the first public performance which was in 1967 by Georgia Brown (TV).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Funky16Corners:

The first release (though promo only) was a weird version by NY DJ Dan Daniels. I've played it on the show before. Uggams' version was produced and arranged by Leiber and Stoller
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Funky16Corners:

I've been looking for a recording of Georgia Brown doing it. Apparently her version was for British TV.
Avatar 4:34pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Yes, released but quickly withdrawn by request. Leslie Uggams' version does not have the laconic drama of Peggy Lee's, but the arrangement was quite interesting. So, it was made by the songwriters, cool. What I did not know until now was that was inspired by Thomas Mann, to the point of direct quotes in the lyric (from his 1896 story Disillusionment (Enttäuschung).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes. Leiber and Stoller were not happy about the Dan Daniel version. The Peggy Lee version is definitive, but it's cool to hear other arrangements.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Were the Jaynetts the original recorded version?

Those Hot Band albums Sylvester did before he started recording dance music are good
Avatar 4:44pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I have a scary feeling the Georgia Brown performance might not exist in any form anymore - as we all know, broadcasting companies were all too eager to reuse film and tape (like Finnish Broadcasting company YLE wiping Jimi Hendrix's 1967 TV performance - OK, it was only reluctant miming from him, but....). I'd still be glad to hear it - I mean 2 versions of Pink Floyd's TOTP See Emily Play performances surfaced well after the fact. The Dan Daniel version is probably in your archives, Larry? Gotta check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
