Mark, this is still in production, but you might want to put "Predict and Surveil: Data, Discretion, and the Future of Policing" by Sarah Brayne (Oxford Univ Press) on your radar. She studied the LAPD's and other forces' adoption of technology like Palantir and other predictive, surveillance, and data-harvesting tools, including interviewing cops and civilian LAPD workers, and went on ride-alongs. Scary stuff that all seems Techtonic adjacent. (Due disclosure: I'm proofreading it at the moment.)

There are many alternatives to Ring. They are not tech innovators, just implementors and marketers and opportunists. The electronics are available widely and can be set up to call you etc without being in their cloud and community control.
