This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Flash Strap:

Percussioni in Crescendo is such a cool record. amazing cover too. simple but highly sonic somehow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Little Danny:

That was really cool. I always wonder the intended commercial context for such abstract/electronic sounds.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
WR:

Looking at recent playlists and I am puzzled why I made no comment on the last 2 shows, and it does seem I missed them. Wonder what I was doing, as I was not working those evenings. True, I am still digesting the show a few weeks ago with the Herbie Mann African Suite show.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
chresti:

A soundtrack for an industrial promotional film?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm
Little Danny:

Thanks for addressing that question, Flash. I hadn't thought of some of that music as a sort of proof-of-concept. It makes sense.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:28pm

You were busy with something, maybe, cooking, drinking, etc. @WR
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm

..talking to someone, perhaps
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
WR:

Two things to consider about sound library records that are primarily electronic sounds: For the library recordings they were often just tossing stuff out to see what would stick. And the electronic recordings would be just a couple of people in the studio. No musicians on the clock.
Avatar 7:31pm
Flash Strap:

good point WR, very low overhead on those sessions

This stuff would make for a hell of a blindfold test.
Avatar 7:56pm

@LD: It's funny, because you're totally right - but on the other hand, sorta by definition, library music has to fill every need! so it's funny the multitudes you'll encounter therein, and the dominant "genre" types that nonetheless emerge
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:57pm

this is supposedly a highly sought-after LP, but it never gets better than this - sorta middle-tier at best. Father & son Filippis though

excellent, B/P, I couldn't ask for more than that!

Evan, when researching these library recordings do you ever come across the sales brochures? I recall seeing some back in the early 70s, but don't remember any details except that they were something like $100 an album.

Flash Strap:

I don't think I ever have, no. I could go deeper than I do

100 is a lot!

this record is so cool & bizarre

WR:

$100 isn't much when you consider that it generally allows royalty free use and that the market was not the general public.
Avatar 9:34pm
Flash Strap:

I figured it had to cover usage, yeah that makes sense
Avatar 9:35pm
Flash Strap:

in that case, pretty good deal, unless the tunes don't suit your needs

I wonder what those synth chip sounds sounded like to people who first heard them as adults.

I feel like I always say this, but this has been one of my favorite of your library label exposés, Evan. Many, many memorable tracks this evening.

Thanks LD! that makes me really happy, honestly

ToTetsu:

and I- feel like I- always say this, but this show is a lifesaver for blocking out the office alexa playing the bosonova rendition of dancing queen

Good find, Chresti! I wonder if she did the minimal geometric designs too, or mainly the painted ones?

To Tetsu, can you turn it up real loud? Or scream at alexa?

Great show Evan. Very varied range of recordings tonight. I found that there are 329 Edizioni Leonardi releases on qbuz.com for 8.49 euro each. I think I'll just keep listening to your show, let you be the collector.
