FYI: Today's playlist image is Joan Miro's "Constellation Awakening at Dawn," from 1941.

I was absolutely certain that String Driven Thing contributed a track to a 1975 Charisma sampler, Beyond an Empty Dream. Checked discogs: nope.

This String Driven Thing material sounds a lot more compelling than I remember it being, way back when. I'm a different listener now.

Hey, Coel!

Tony Coulter:

@ StringOFperils: Their records took a real nose dive after this one -- the later ones are pretty terrible, imo.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
ynod:

Doesn't one of their albums have a wild Hipgnosis cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
StringOFperils:

That would explain it. I think they started groping their way toward bad early metal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

  12:37pm
Dean:

Tony, do you know the Swiss prog band Flame Dream? On one of their albums, 1981's Out in the Dark, they added an American guitarist, Dale Hauskins, who used to hang out in the Southern California record store where I worked in the late '70s. I visited Dale at home once or twice, where he demonstrated his chops and his abiding affection for Allan Holdsworth. Hearing the album, you can sense the influence. Dale was also a big Hillage fan, even flew to London to hang out with him.
Avatar 12:38pm
Tony Coulter:

I know the name, and I think I have heard them -- but it's been years, so I can't honestly say I remember what they sound like.

Franco Twinkie:

Hi Tony. When I was little, my grandmother had some drapes that must have been inspired by that Miro painting. They were made of bark cloth, a very heavy nubbly fabric.
  12:41pm
Dean:

Maybe Miro was inspired by the drapes, Franco?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm

I can think of one person Kienholz seemed to influence - John Waters. When I first saw Female Trouble in 1975, I was awed and delighted to see that he seemed to get stuff out of the trash for set decoration.
