Well, on the tour back down to the Mid-Atlantic, he decided to drive the van the whole way (I only heard this after the fact), he dumped everything before he got to DC as he was so paranoid from two day w/o sleep he thought the cops were on to him. I saw Warren Zevon at The Roxy in 1978. He was,how can I say this? a bit wound up. Don Snowden, the music writer came and sat at our table, and affected I've seen this all before pose. Yes, Waddy was prancing around like it was HIS show.

That Ella record made me think of Analog Room near San Jose: http://www.theanalogroom.net/ He's retiring! No! (Actually, he retired once before from his architecture practice.) Analog Room was one of a kind. I bet Brian had a copy of that Ella record for sale. I kept delaying the inevitable turntable maintenance I wanted Brian to perform on my 'table. Damn.

TDK, on that night he was very good. Warren was having a good stretch, which wasn't always the case.

ngh: Opera affords quality opportunity to kill time. I have a bunch, but I almost never play any, because I can't devote the two, three hours or so. Lately, however, I've played Falstaff, Betrothal in a Monastery, Pelleas, and that Xerxes.

I saw Haden with his Liberation Music Orchestra-Haden was behind a fiberglass "wall", to protect his ears (he was suffering from tinnitus and hyperacusis, pain from loud noise).

Maybeck, yes, indeed. I think I have all of his Concord records. One of my favorite tracks of his, "Consolation," appears on one of them. He wrote it when he was 16. When I hired his trio to play an event, I requested that tune. He played it!
