I reckoned the issue was a fan going out, and if it's a Mac, especially an older one, those are easy to swap out and put a replacement one in. What sucks is because I can't get into the city, I can't do that kind of repair work right now!

One aspect has been irritation with certain people outside who are not taking this seriously. Most do seem to be tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
Gary:

Now that I don't have a 4-hour-a-day commute, I feel normal again, ironically, given the situation. I've been cooking more, reading more, limiting TV updates
Avatar 7:19pm
TDK60:

I'm not bored whatsoever. Books, magazines, LPs, tapes, WFMU, guitar, oh yeah--internet; it's just the "stir crazy" thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm

The stir crazy is real. Lots of pacing and pseudo-dancing to no music
Avatar 7:20pm

Hi Gary,

So happy your music continues for all of us to enjoy. Stay well my dear.
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
WR:

I've been working from home for about 2 years. So personally the only personal difference now is that I go to the grocery store at 7AM or 11PM to avoid crowd. It took 1.5 week but I finally scored toilet paper this morning so all set to continue shelter in place except for periodic milk and egg replenishment. Oh, one difference, my partner is now working from home. It's been a week now. So far so good with us being in the apartment all the time together. With the real possibility of this going on for several months I assume we will have new opportunities for growth in the relationship...
Avatar 7:23pm
TDK60:

Glad your show continues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
melinda:

@Gary I'm sorry to hear about the stir-crazies but 'pseudo-dancing to no music' is hilarious. I sometimes do that when it's too cold to go outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Gary:

Hi Mom! All is well, you too, and stay safe! ... and, hi WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
melinda:

Our shelter in place went into effect today at 5:00, but they called it Emergency Stay at Home or something like that.
Avatar 7:26pm
LambdaCalculus:

Everyone forgets too that the bodegas and small mom and pop food stores in NYC usually have the much needed supplies, including toilet paper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
Gary:

We will all find out if we're living with the right person, haha
Avatar 7:29pm
TDK60:

Yes, the small groceries, delis, bodegas are open. Often more well stocked than the big supermarkets. I thanked my bakery-deli workers the other day when I got croissants. In Spanish.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
chresti:

The worrisome part for me is that people can be out and around unawares they have it, and not taking precautions. The irritating part is the hoarding and shortages.
Avatar 7:37pm
TDK60:

Rest assured I have been /extremely/ angry about the situation in its political dimension. I will not bring up specifics at this time.
Avatar 7:37pm
LambdaCalculus:

The hoarding is the worst. Especially when it comes to food. Unless you're cooking for an army, I don't see any real reason why anyone would need to buy 144 eggs or 20 gallons of milk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
melinda:

@chresti yeah. Normally I find walking in my neighborhood a decent antidote to stress but lately I find myself getting anxious when I pass someone and we don't have 6 feet between us.
Avatar 7:39pm

My local Portuguese supermarket thankfully has had plenty of good food available. Plenty of good, fresh fruits and veggies, plenty of good, freshly baked bread, lots of fresh meat, and lots of other tasty delectables.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm

Even if people only shop for a few weeks supplies, when a lot of people do that it depletes reserves.

Hi doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm
ParUbi:

About coffee filters: "Coffee filters only allow for the escape of particles smaller than 10-15 microns, that is the same for common surgical masks. It can't stop viruses but it can stop aerosolized particles that contain viruses such as could be spread through coughing and sneezing. In short if everyone wore a coffee filter on their face it would help stop the spread of COVID-19."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
melinda:

@ParUbi exactly, they do say even makeshift masks are better than nothing. But since some expert sources were telling people otherwise and that only people with symptoms should wear them, it makes anyone with a mask look like they're sick. And if you put a coffee filter on your face you might look like a sick person doing a bad job of protecting.

Because it's also allergy season, my allergies tend to go off unless I take my meds. People around me are losing their shit when I sneeze, because A) not only do I sneeze so loud that everyone in NYC can hear me, and B) I could potentially knock a small house down, but because any kind of sneezing or coughing is considered "OHMYGOD YOU'RE INFECTED!!!", even when I DO tell people it's just my allergies.

Coel, I went back on Sunday with another letter and a copy of L.A. Times to drive home the point. She is starting to get it. A little hippie girl with long dreads wheeled he up to the front door and let me get closer than the previous maniac who made me stand about 20 feet away. She looks great and was in a good mood.
