Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from February 21, 2020 Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

I was going to make a joke about the stream playing Cowboy Copas before your show being good lead in for your show, and then you start with Copa cabana. STRETCH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Webhamster Henry:

You should check out Bea Lillie doing "I went to a Marvelous Party" (and everything else she sings).
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
WR:

that was seemless going from Stritch to Coward, seemed the same accompanist and one voice slipped in for the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm
Webhamster Henry:

"It's a Boy's Life" is like that great "No Dames!" bit from HAIL, CAESAR !

HELLO FRIENDS!!
Avatar 7:26pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: It is sort of like an early prototpye, but even less subtle as it's from a musical set in a world where gay relationships are the norm, and the protagonists are an explicitly gay couple (in 1975!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm

"Ivor Novello" (Jeremy Northam) makes an appearance in Altman's "Gosford Park".

Saw Groundhogs Day, liked it (and didn't expect to).

Fits nicely following the nuns.

@WR @ 7:13: Thanks!! I was a bit stressed about that transition because the Stritch track cuts off really abruptly so I'm relieved that I pulled it off lol

WR:

doctorjazz, you mean the movie or the musical? I first saw the movie a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm
Webhamster Henry:

Jeez this 1992 Sondheim tribute was very uneven. But it's best for "Broadway Baby" and the stunning "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" by Harolyn Blackwell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Webhamster Henry:

This was during that period where there were more Sondheim Tributes around than shows.

and I've just learned a bit about Tim Minchin so I am less leery of the Groundhog Day musical than I was at first.

I saw the movie when it came out, but I was referring to the musical in the post

HOW IS IT I JUST LEARNED THAT YOU ARE ON THE AIR, JUST NOT STATION AIR? Also, at a time that I can hear now that I am back in the states.

You usually don't do themes, but a little Harold Rome tribute would be nice.

I wish Satan would buy me drinks and call, not to be edgy but, It'd probably add some odd spice to life. How many Faustian Bargains are you allowed per call?

Another Broadway brush with greatness: Me and mom waiting outside the stage door to meet up with Bobby LuPone, Patti's brother, when he was in the original cast of A Chorus Line.

I saw the Tyne Daly version of Gypsy.

@Uncle Michael: Did you know him? My friend Susan went to high school with him and has the same story about meeting up with him outside the stage door!

@Henry: How was it? I've heard wildly polarizing opinions on Ms Daly's performance

My mom knew him because she worked at the Goodman in Chicago, where he'd been in Sam Shepard's Tooth of Crime.

Thanks for the show, which I will have to try and catch now since I know it exists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm

@BB I don't remember much about it except "All I Need is the Girl", which actually gave you an idea of how great a simple, straightforward Vaudeville number could be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm

Nope...the show after that.
