I used to work nights in this old factory that had a large cockroach infestation. They fumigated it dozens of times and finally won.
But for several months, you'd open something, move something aside, etc, and dozens of dead cockroaches would spill out.
This was also during a time when I was really into screwing around with the office copy machines, making art, flyers, zines, etc. after hours.
I took a bunch of photogenic looking roaches and would copy them, enlarge them, print them out and make art from them.
That was the year I made a mommy, daddy and two little kids roach images and made 'Merry Christmas from The Roach Family' Xmas cards for friends and family. Stupidly, I lost every bit of it and they never survived into the digital age.

Aww, no Florida Woods Cockroach? (aka the Palmetto Bug), they get to 62mm (2.5") long, and they can fly, and smell like Sulphur when you smash them. Just saw one in my room yesterday.

In japan, there was a 20m deep storm drain (I was 12). It was covered in roaches, so, w/ my friends watching, I dropped 5 gallons of gasoline in there and dropped a match. One 'wooooooof!' later, more roaches.....

I did have a friend who had Madagascar roaches as pets, they were fun to play w/…..

I've lived around a rather wide variety of encroaching insects/arachnids, but I can honestly say that the most unnerving thing about cockroaches is that they seem rather intelligent/aware. Like they could be just sitting there on your kitchen floor but will suddenly react to you coming into the room and scamper under something. I can't think of any other bug that seems that cognisant of its surroundings. Not sure why I found that particularly creepy, but I did.
