	10:30pm mariano: Oh man, I remember so clearly the first time I saw/heard Ladysmith Black Mambazo- it was on SNL in the 80s and Paul Simon was the musical guest. And instead of performing during one of his slots, he introduced LBM, and they sang "Homeless", all in traditional dress. It was so unexpected, one of the best musical moments on that show. It felt like the whole country sat there with their mouths open for a few seconds after.

My mom is sensitive to light and the room mate is blind. My mom started putting a towel over her TV, then just starting yanking out the cord. Last week she missed SNL and was totally pissed. When I told her yesterday my mom was leaving in few day she said GOOD!

He was into Zappa, Beefheart, Mahavishnu, the NY punk bands... He'd play all his records and tell me about the bands, the scenes they were from. Always been extremely grateful for that little pocket of my childhood, it's basically when I became aware of music as something other than pretty tunes.
