Nora Brown live on WFMU
Nora Brown  Darling Cora (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    The bandcamp page for her debut album, Cinnamon Tree https://norabrown.bandcamp.com/album/cinnamon-tree  1:50:52 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  Jay Gould's Daughter (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Nora will be appearing both Friday and Sunday at the upcoming Brooklyn Folk Festival April 17-19. In fact, Nora kicks things off Friday night on the main stage!  1:57:05 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  Wild Goose Chase (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    This tune is not on Nora's album. I heard about Nora from her playing at Jalopy Theatre in Brooklyn. She has some YouTube videos that were my first introduction to her playing, before I saw her play live.  2:01:08 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  The Very Day I'm Gone (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Not from Nora's album. This is an old Addie Gray song. Addie had been more or less overlooked for decades, and had little or nothing in print. This is a link to a tribute album: https://juneappalrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/the-very-day-im-gone-songs-of-addie-graham Link to Nora's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCACj1Q5KDkdUuknxUZERkbg  2:06:00 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  Buck Creek Girls (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    When she first began playing, she was known as Little Nora Brown, undoubtedly a nod to those great old names from the pre-war era. I like just Nora Brown better, and age is no factor here. Though still young, her music is deep.  2:11:17 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  Hills of Mexico (live)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Thanks to Leslie Fierro for setting this up, and thanks to Nora's folks for making this happen. I've done some wonderful sessions here at WFMU, but this ranks as one of my very favorite. A very moving set, and a wonderful interview. It's music like this that has kept me a part of FMU for something like 29 years.  2:14:50 (Pop-up)
Nora Brown  (interview)   Favoriting (live on WFMU)    Sometimes, an engineer is not available, as many of our DJs do live recordings. This was the case here. This was recorded with just two standard mics, inside studio B, kinda old timey style, I suppose.  2:20:47 (Pop-up)

I emailed spamoni last week and he said that he was in the hospital, with what he figured was liver failure (he had mentioned this in his most recent comments board post). Maybe that was pre-diagnosis, but I have not heard anything since. I will reach out again.

Nothing after. He is already go through enough from the treatments and then having fluids removed as a result of the treatments. Pancreatic cancer as well as any cancer is bullshit. I have worse opinions on treatments. Hopefully he checks in briefly today

@Dropof this is why as I have gotten older I have gravitated towards stations like WFMU where people like Jeff know their music and a lot of the people on the chats are pretty knowledgeable too, as a result I have given up completely on commercial radio

Jeffrey Davison:

Dropof Goldensun: I hear you. There is something to what you say, and what Nora alluded to. Luckily, there are plenty of musicians who are determined to keep these old traditions alive. Listen to Transpacific Sound Paradise for another weekly dose of traditional music (along with more modern eclectic music with trad roots). One tradeoff is that the field of music is wide open and we get to hear the results of all these interchanges, some truly great stuff.

I believe if anything goes south for him he has told his sons to contact one of us? Not positive but that would be expected as he has referred to other issues like that
  8:57am
John from Florham park:

@Iggy hope they do that
  8:58am
Dropof Goldensun:

Yeah, even though using technology to listen to these “peculiar pockets” of music could possibly contribute to the homogenization I think it actually just injects some new DNA into the mix. Not the same as being force fed stuff like what John from FP talks about. Great interview!
