damn, i want to see that commercial!
of course then i'll just curse my life again for having never driven a citroën ds
Avatar 12:24am
Mod Mokka Matti:

@coel: look for "Citroen DS pallas spot commercial 1968", or something to that effect. Great camerawork, too.

damn that car is beautiful. i've been intrigued by them since i was a little kid.
Avatar 12:31am
Mod Mokka Matti:

I've never owned or driven a Citroën, but I really dig the marque as a whole, going back to my Uni daze, if not earlier, when I was a wee lad of a car nut. The DS series still impresses me, and seems to transcend time.

It looks like the Grande Corniche, above Monte Carlo, the Citroen spot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am
coelacanth∅:

i always loved volvos too, and did end up driving that particular dream car, the 164. i always imagined modifying a 164 by chopping the roof an inch or 2, lengthening the front a little, lowering the whole thing, adding deep dish wheels, subtle tail fins (like from c.1960 rambler) and citroën rear directionals on the roof!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am
coelacanth∅:

...and Steve Parker's work is fascinating; but it seems like something to experience more than visually
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am

Mod Mokka Matti:

I've not seen the locale stated elsewhere, so I'll take your word for it. And the 164 is nice; back when they still had character before turning so rectilinear, then evolving afterwards. Although, in Junior High, my Health/PE teacher in 8th grade had one of those 240 Bertone Coupes, that stood out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09am
Joe D.:

damn this sounds like 100 gecs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am
coelacanth∅:

yeah that one was fairly rare i guess.
that's about how chopped i'd modify a 164.
...now i'm going to go crazy trying to remember what my elementary school phys-ed teacher had! (something like that too)

Mod Mokka Matti:

@coelacanth∅: Back when I was in Junior College, building up credits and my portfolio to become a Design major at Uni, one of the instructors mentioned that there was someone else here in WA State that they knew, who had supposedly had a hand in the design of the Volvo P1800 - whether it was the coupe or the wagon is hazy. Would have loved to have been able to meet them, if that was true. That's another design classic I really dig.

rich:

thank you for listening carl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am
coelacanth∅:

oh man Matti i love that 1800 (of course)
...wasn't that designed by the same (italian) team that designed the carmen ghia?
Avatar 1:46am
Mod Mokka Matti:

Hmm, that could be right - I used to know so many of those backstories, but so much has happened since in life to crowd out that older retained info.
