	🥁 4:39pm fred: re: recording bass, I read in the booklet of Dust To Digital's "How Low Can You Go?" that an early recording with a loud bass had the wider needle movement destroy records quickly
	4:42pm Martinibomb: I have read that some where too..it's more to do with the vinyl mastering makes the grooves deep or wide or something and causes the needle to jump out
	4:45pm doctorjazz: That's the reason for the RIAA recording curve, from what I understand. Lower frequencies are attenuated when recorded onto the grooves (so as not to overload them). The reverse operation is done on playback, so the sound you hear had those lows back as they were played (and why you need a phono preamp, or a phono section in your receiver, to play back vinyl, but not other sources).
