i was gonna say they're like that band that rips off the beach boys

Vinnie Favale:

Hi Michael...not sure if this has ever come up but if I'm not mistaken Bernard Purdie was the drummer on the Sgt Pepper movie soundtrack...which had a wide range of Beatle songs on it and that was produced by George Martin. Maybe he conflated playing drums on Beatle songs and being produced by Gorge Martin into a Beatles session?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am

@Dale, I liked CHUM and Q107 but I loved CFNY 102.1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am

Wonder if those copycats recordings paid publishing etc or if the just hit and run, getting what $$$ the could get and dissolved.

Neil Peart fun fact, he copied CFNY's slogan when he wrote "Spirit of Radio"

  11:29am
Dean:

Vox magazine (Dec. 1, 1993, issue) includes a two paragraph bit about Purdie's claim. An excerpt: "[H]is recent allegations that he appeared on 21 Beatles tracks have brought denials from both Ringo Starr and George Martin. According to Purdie, Starr did not play on any early Beatles' recordings. He alleges that Brian Epstein took the tapes to the US where Purdie provided new drum tracks, after which he was paid and told to keep quiet."

Vinnie - he claims pre-date that soundtrack, but, YES, it might be part of his confusion...

What I learned later was that Canadian stations had to play a certain % of Canadian music, so lots of cool stuff (Teenage Head, Rough Trade, BB Gabor, etc I forget… so long ago!)
