Sorry, Jeff, did you say who's in this trio? I think I hear Paul Motian.

Joey Baron, drums, and Marc Copland, piano, with Peacock, bass.

Ah, I thought it was an old Peacock record. Motian died in 2011, I am informed.

Great show last week, Harmony, group with Bill Frissell, Petra Haden, Hank Roberts, cello, Luke Bergman, bass. Lovely music (all slow, though). Man, can Haden sing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jeff Golick:

Sounds lovely, @doc. What venue?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:20am
doctorjazz:

Jazz Standard. I've heard Petra Haden on record quite a bit, love the stuff she does, but I think in all the interesting shticks she does, the sheer beauty of her voice gets lost. Much of the set (with 3 part harmony) brought tears to the eye.
Avatar 🥁 10:21am

Wow, @doctor!
You probably know the Paul Motian album, Windmills of Your Mind, which has Frisell and Haden on it. It is really good.

Re: Park Slope. Sadly, most people do not want to hear music that they are unfamiliar with. I'm not surprised that they might not like it, but I am (still) surprised that people aren't at least curious about new sounds.

Cool story, LG!
I once saw Ronald Shannon Jackson playwith a group at the Westfield Jazz Festival (a summer 2 hour street gig, at which I almost never see anyone well known, and generally only find occasional groups I'd pay to see). I recognized him and spoke to him a bit; he was also surprised I knew who he was.

Jeff, well after the vast volumes of rain it is a trifle boggy. Usually when the clocks change they go off-lay but so far so good. Need to do a little maintenance but need the ground to dry out first. That concludes the chicken report.

"In an interview with French philosopher Jacques Derrida, saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman told the story of an encounter he had while working in a big department store before becoming a musician. “One day,” he said, “during my lunch break, I came across a gallery where someone had painted a very rich woman who had absolutely everything that you could desire in life, and she had the most solitary expression in the world. I had never been confronted with such solitude.” This was the moment that inspired one of Coleman’s most famous compositions: “Lonely Woman.”"
