Hello lost opera horses that are acting like soap
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm
Sam Segal:

In the manner of a Chresti! Welcome!
  9:12pm
Dean:

I promise not to mention Steely Dan this week.

(Damn!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm
Sam Segal:

I want this to be a safe space for you, Dean! Dan or no Dan!
Avatar 9:16pm
Hams:

this record's a knockout.
  9:20pm
Chris Farrel:

Dean; academic question I thought of this week that I wanted your input on.
Is a story better to have a conclusive ending where there is a clear ending
Or is an open ending with no real conclusion more appealing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
Sam Segal:

Hams! Indeed, "Guitar" is a special one...especially love the whole Princess Sonata.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Sam Segal:

Chris, if I may weigh in, the best story has a
  9:25pm
Dean:

My off the cuff response, Chris, due largely to the fact that I'm immersed in J. Hillis Miller's The Linguistic Moment, is that good literature never has a conclusive ending. By that I mean that the reader will never be able to conclude that "the moral of this story is" such-and-such. But I think you're referring specifically to the narrative trajectory itself: "and they all lived happily ever after" versus "and they wandered off into the sunset..." I don't think one or the other prevails.

Ask an academic question, get a pseudo-academic answer.
  9:26pm
Chris Farrel:

Both parts of that were helpful. Thank you for your input.
  9:27pm
Dean:

Some great works never conclude. See, e.g., Finnegan's Wake and Dhalgren.
Avatar 9:28pm
Hams:

yeah, that version of "blind willie" is something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
chresti:

I think it depends, if you want it to be made into a blockbuster movie, then definitely leave it hanging..
Haha Sam
  9:30pm
Dean:

A *series* of blockbuster movies!
  9:31pm
Chris Farrel:

I can understand that. I relate my writing abilities to a scene in the Royal Tenebaums where Richie Tenebaum is in a tennis match and he removes one of his shoes and “actually I think he’s crying”

But I came across several rousing ideas during my using days and could never put the puzzle together fully.
  9:32pm
Chris Farrel:

A joke: I believe Blockbuster went out of business but Netflix is alive and well.
  9:35pm
Dean:

On those rare occasions when I exhibit "writing abilities" I relate them to the last thing I just read. I'm pretty much a Zelig in that arena, not quite a copy-cat, but by no stretch an original.
  9:36pm
Chris Farrel:

I can understand but originality is virtually impossible under some circumstances

And even then how can a person be sure.
  9:40pm
Chris Farrel:

Nice set so far Sam.
  9:40pm
Dean:

Of course. I don't mean "original" in absolute terms, but relatively speaking Dickinson is an original, like Wallace Stevens, Laurence Sterne, Rabelais, Mallarme...you know, literary oddballs whose eccentricities don't seem gratuitous or faked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks, Chris!
  9:42pm
Dean:

I once flew into LFO from Denver on a layover.
  9:44pm
Chris Farrel:

I don’t spit on the floor.
  9:46pm
Chris Farrel:

Sam: when you were in Greece did you eat at any restaurants where it was custom to break your dishes on the floor what when done eating?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Sam Segal:

While it wasn't the custom anywhere I ate, I did do it anyway, Chris!
  9:47pm
Chris Farrel:

Lmao. Time for Accounting goodnight to the chat.
  9:49pm
Dean:

I once dined at a famous-ish restaurant in Long Beach/San Pedro, CA, a really fun Greek restaurant, Papadakis, where in fact they *did* routinely smash plates on the floor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
Sam Segal:

Sounds cathartic!
  9:51pm
Dean:

Indeed. You can't get more Greek than catharsis.

I just started binging Bojack Horseman, although dark at times, it's full of reflections of todays society and plenty of obscure easter eggs and jokes that mostly woofmooers would get.

Remarkably, when I heard the first strains of this cheesy Genesis tune I thought, "Strawbs!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅))):

i have a technical question someone here might be able to answer, if you'll pardon me.
my receiver specifies a 75 ohm antenna for fm and i cannot find one that i know i had. the only dipole antennas i find on ebay that have a lead wire long enough to come close to reaching the ceiling are "300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Push-On Adapter" antennas.
will this work as well? is there anything at all about it that is not as good as a straight up 75ohm wire beginning to end?
is there an upside to the 300 ohm adapter?

I could listen to Robert Wyatt sing telephone book or even recite the English alphabet.

Coelacanthø (holy sh!t your user name is in my text buffer as first choice for coe!) except for very demanding spec the adapter is just as good. My 2 cents...
