I saw Martin, Bogan & Armstrong a few times, in the '70s. Great times.

JakeGould:

“Bailey was fired by WSM in 1941 because of a licensing conflict between BMI and ASCAP, which prevented him from playing his best-known tunes on the radio. This effectively ended his performance career, and he spent the rest of his life shining shoes and renting out rooms in his home to make a living.” en.wikipedia.org...

Kinda reminds me of how Wilbert Harrison was screwed as well.

Great show as always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm

And isn't it mentioned in the doc that Bailey was maligned as being to lazy to learn new material?

Bootsie:

Much love for Charley Pride! One of the country artists my mom listened to back in the day, along with Eddy and Chet. And if you asked her, she really didn't like country. But how can you not like those three?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Gaylord Fields:

@Bootsie: People tend to have more problem with country as a marketing term than as actual music.
Avatar 8:38pm
slugluv1313:

my Mom loved Charley Pride too! even though she was not really fond of most Country music
also thinking of Joe Thompson, Carolina Chocolate Drops -- although possibly not exactly Country?
  8:38pm
P-90:

The announcer on those Candlelite Records commercials was Fred Foy, who had grown up as one of vaudeville’s “Seven Little Foys”. He was also the announcer/narrator of the Lone Ranger on radio and TV. An unmistakable voice.

Even though I'm from the south ,when I was a teen you couldn't like country cause the hippy thing was happening. Then the hippies started getting into blue grass and when the Willy and Waylon Outlaw thing started then it was OK like country
