Hey Sheila! I'm in love with The Practice of Love, Musically and lyrically. "I'm like a, I'm the, I'm someone that is in the background in regards to survival 'cause I'm not directly supporting survival, I'm just, I'm supporting it in a very abstract way, and possibly not supporting it
Possibly not supporting it, antagonist?

Sheila, I think I'm cut from this same mega prep cloth as you! I'm laughing with you, not at you, but been there for sure. Being spontaneous gives heart attacks!! haha.

I had never seen that David Stone Martin cover of the Billie Holiday LP. I think it's one of his best.
Oh, and the combination of Kurt Weil and Lady Day is pretty stunning too.

@Rob Kopp - I leave outside of Seattle and I discovered there's an Indonesian restaurant there that serves food in the Dutch style small plates. I can't wait to try it.

@Tim: It's not in the Dutch style but in the Indonesian style. In The Netherlands we call it rijsttafel = rice table. Rice with 10-20 different other things. You should definitely try it. This weekend we have pasar malam in my town, an Indonesian market, which means a lot of food, made in the traditional Indonesian way. Just finished my nasi rames.

@Rob -...and one could argue that they're more Dutch than Turkish.

@tneeld: I know, but I can't hear it :-)

tim from champaign:

@Rob - aha, thanks for the clarification! I had it jumbled in my mind. I had rijsttafel once in Miami Beach and it was an all time favorite meal. The college I went to had a sister school in Indonesia so there was an Indonesian restaurant in that town. They only served single dishes though. My favorite was gado gado.

I wish I could have seen their faces when Sheila told them that she had heard (from me) that Jasper had been playing (and still is) in De Biet, who are doing sixties covers. You can hear in interview with the session that they were very surprised!

@Rob I can't hear it as anything other than Turkish either. It's a tough time to be a Turkophile these days, but all of my friends there are disgusted with what's going on there.

I have a hard time grappling with the ethics of artists boycotting performances in Israel. Because, like you said, their governments =/= their people, but by that metric I couldn't imagine why any artist outside of the USA would want to come here and tour in the heart of the empire. Part of me feels happy when an artist makes political statements like that, but another part of me feels like it is a virtue signal.

I saw Aldous last week. A bit disappointed. Set was short, she likes to sit when she plays so in the club setting we were in, so only the front few rows could see her. And her oddness just seemed a little disturbing in that setting. Sounded good, though.
