A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

I''m grateful for streaming but miss listening to terrestrial radio. My stereo is quite unreliable and that's how my listening habits became computer-centic and I got hooked on FMU. @Michael when I visited Jersey City the first time I was able to listen on a boombox with not-great reception, but a good radio (or any radio) usually isn't part of the lodgings one finds.

Here's how I see it... Every small town in America has at least a few talented, beautiful young people from families of means. All these people move to New York, then ten years later, they buy a place upstate so their children can play with crawdads.

LL, that, combined with renting thru Airbnb redices the amount of housing available to longer term residents. It’s a real rupture in “community”.

absolutely right on, kevlicki. i'm still on the hunt as well. this year i've discovered what 'community' actually means, in a rural way. the people of an authentic community rely on one another for their survival. community is *not* a bunch of second homes within a few miles' drive.
