You know, this Annie Haslam track reminds me of the Hooked on Classics albums from the late '70s or very yearly '80s. Classical pieces with a disco beat - did those get released in the US?

"an tropical island"? i really should try coffee again.

Good morning Julie growing up in the 60's i used buy albums everyday popular an unpopular like Sopwith Camel, If, Frost,my favorite was It's A Beautiful Day singing White Bird to bad legal battles ruined a great San Francisco sound! And loving Annie for Renaissance !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25am
jkeigh:

I was a prog snob for most of the 90s and Early 2000s and the Lamb was played a little too often.
Avatar 7:25am

we did have "Hooked on Classics" for sure. i've got something a bit older called "the Swingle Singers" ~ similar vibe. late 60s, pop vocalizations for classical pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26am

moody blues! man, wished i got out of bed sooner...

Avatar 7:27am
Kevin_Ringwood_ UK:

@jkeigh - Ah, thanks. My Dad had one, bought it when he got his new, expensive Sony hi-fi separates in about '79 - played it endlessly. Even now I can't listed to classical stations without hearing that disco beat in the background
  7:28am
John from Florham Park:

@TDK if I had my way there would be no genesis on this station
Avatar 7:29am

Gabriel Genesis is more accepted around here than Collins but I do like Wind & Wuthering
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am

Collins gets a bad rap, pop genesis still had its moments. Especially side 1 and Dodo/Lurker from Abacab. And that drum sound!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32am
dale:

julie, are you into any of the moody's solo stuff like blue jays? 70s over production but good wriing. mike pinder's 'the promise' has a couple of good songs, hayward's song 'nostradamus' is great, ray thomas' two albums are meh. the graeme edge band with the gurvitz brothers has some wild stuff.
  7:33am
John from Florham Park:

@LL fair enough
@TDK60 I guess Phil turned me off to genesis

Met a goth couple during the last sand sculpture contest at Revere Beach. I complimented them on their outfits and then we chatted a bit about music. Nice to still see that. I'm more of a dark blue kind of guy, myself.

What I don't see anymore are punks. Probably the last one was a teen walking down the street back in the early 2000s. Got to love people who go against the grain.

John from Florham Park:

@CS so do I kinda like this station
Avatar 8:33am
C.S.:

Yes. It's sad that I now work in a place that blasts mainstream music. Really crappy stuff.
Avatar 8:33am
Linda Lee:

CS ~ that's punk! against the grain, regardless of the grain's color. ergo: the crowd is full out leather & spikes, but the outcast dresses like Pee Wee Herman. guess who the punk is?

@TDK60 ~ it's pretty amazing how 'counterculture' becomes so quickly codified ~ on the way to monetized!

I still have an obscenely huge moustache. I am considering shaving it and all my hair for cancer fundraising.
Avatar 8:45am

@Julie, for me it's mostly listening to what others play and sometimes the random discovery on Youtube. I have a huge goth band master list but work has killed my free time and I haven't touched it in a while.

so sorry you're feeling miserable, CS. i'm fairly miserable most every morning myself. good music helps the situation enormously.

@Linda Lee. I have been trying to get a few old buildings preserved in my hometown for 12 years and this developer got the area declared a National Register District to collect tax credits on one building but he let the others rot in place. After recapturing his tax credits for 5 years, he just announced he is going to wipe out the entire district. This is a miserey that runs deep.

In Australia, I am not sure if they reuse the hair. i think their main goal is fundraising.
Avatar 8:51am
Linda Lee:

@CS ~ wow. well, much of that is beyond your control, so say the serenity prayer & godspeed.
Avatar 8:52am
Linda Lee:

@spamoni ~ would you consider keeping it? easily done.
Avatar 8:52am
C.S.:

We came so close to finding a buyer but things just fell apart and the developer swooped in. Makes you wonder what the point of it all was. America has little respect for history.

elwyn ~ i always figured hair was good for fundraising because it was sold. not sure where the money would come from otherwise..?
