Was allowed to listen to this cast album at a really young age, so these tracks are in my DNA. Vocabulary expander in spots, maybe more than was fitting for most grade schoolers.

although it's never a bad day for this music really.

james, i guess my parents went to the show, then my father bought the st album when it came out. played it for the whole family and of course at several points my mother objected; but enlightenment prevailed.

it was! He was at the show just before the one I went to. I saw him on his way out. But my friends in the show were super thrilled to meet him.

This Donovan record is making me blush.

listener james from westwood:

Holy crow, mini-Bjork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Parq:

So many Hair songs were pop hits that I felt I had heard the score even when I hadn't. In fact, that was probably the last Broadway musical to produce multiple pop hits. After that it was the same "one track only" mentality as albums.
Avatar 🦇 12:19pm

yeah the donovan song gets a bit racy!

Avatar 12:34pm
Scraps:

In fact, though it’s true that they don’t do much pop hits from Broadway shows now, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” by Yvonne Elliman from J.C. Superstar was a hit
Avatar 🦇 12:35pm
Julie:

but that was from the film I don't know if she recorded it outside of that
Avatar 🦇 12:36pm
Julie:

you'd think we'd be hearing Hamilton on the radio or something, not that I even know what happens on commercial radio really
Avatar 12:37pm
Scraps:

Sorry, I though you were counting that. Never mind
Avatar 🦇 12:38pm
Julie:

oh it counts... but I was wondering about pop stars recording Bway songs too like happened with Hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Parq:

Just as a technical point, Ellman's "Don't Know" wasn't from the movie *or* the Broadway show. It was the original version recorded for the 1971 (or so) album, which was a stand alone project that morphed into other media only later.
Avatar 🦇 12:43pm
Julie:

oh really? Interesting! I used to use it as an audition song. very popular.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
listener james from westwood:

Yay, Cure!
Avatar 12:44pm
egal:

HOF Cure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm
Parq:

Yeah, the lack of Hamilton songs on the radio is, I think, a reflection of how the new generation of theater-goers consume music. I'm betting that the labels assume the show's songs to be playing on Spotify and being downloaded and such. "Weird" Al Yankovic's "Hamilton Polka" is the closest it's come to radio play.
