If WFMU had tons of money to spare, they could send out postage-paid boxes to listeners on request and get the unwanted CDs sent in for airplay or record fair usage.

I liked that Crass, despite their stridently political nature, had a distinct Dada edge to their work. I also strongly recommend Gee Vaucher's book Crass and Other Post Modernist Monsters.

Chthu-Lyle:

I remember a Valentine's Day gig I played with Kraftwerk in Champagne, Illinois (might have been DeKalb? So long ago). This was back in the mid-70s. It's funny. People bought those Kraftwerk records, and I don't think they thought there were really computers that went on the road and played those songs, but there were! I was in the bone section. 4th bone. My usual position. Of course, at the appropriate time, the interdimensional wob-gobbler was summoned forth to eat the brains of those who have committed crimes against music, such as America. Or was it REO Speedwagon? No, no, definitely America. They were bashed over the head with Wurlitzers, I think ... no, that's not right. It was a Kimball. A String-A-Ma-Gig. That's what they called it. A prototype. I don't think it ever did go into production. It was too bulky and heavy, but it did sound nice, and it was good for bashing the heads of the members of America so they could be sacrificed to unimaginable horrors from beyond space-time. Folks loved the sound of it. We played all of the favorites of the day during the sacrifice, and the lush sounds we produced allowed us to summon forth the most appalling Lovecraftian horrors! All of this was a long time ago.

Lyle:

Hahaha CHTHU-LYLE! Interesting. Few know that America's, Dewey Bunnel,l could often be found holed-up in his motel room on the road (the boys always stayed in Ramada Inns) diddling away at a "thought-box" he was building which he felt would be capable of accurately duplicating all of America's hit songs, only with that new "machine" sound he instinctively felt was on the horizon. It was actually a modified Tandy B11R-16 fuzz-shaver, coupled with parts cobbled from a Hamilton Beach blender and an electric football game. Sadly, in a fit of jealously, and probably high on greenies or Doan's Pills, Dan Peek threw the contraption out the window one night in Minot, North Dakota. Since they were on the first floor, the computer was fine, but it was immediately scooped up by someone passing by the room at that very moment. That someone just happened to be Steve Jobs ... and the rest is, as they say, history. Dewey Bunnell ... father of the modern internet?
