A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

@Neil I feel the same way, it's like robots took over and they thought no one would notice. If it was used only now and then I could appreciate it more as another musical tool (I'm a fan monotone robot-voice), but it's not a substitute for a genuinely tuneful voice.

Reading poetry, too, lately: Frederick Seidel, William Alabaster (devotional stuff by a 16th century Protestant-turned-Catholic-times-two), William Carlos Williams. Must return to Emily Dickinson, John Ashbery, many others. Did folks see the story in the NYT by Ilya Kaminsky about his return to Odessa, where he'd grown up deaf? Around 2005 I met him at a gate at Oakland Int'l Airport. He had just published his first book of poetry, Dancing in Odessa. We flew together and talked Shakespeare (whose work he knew very well in English), poetry, studying law. He is a marvelous poet.
