any three chorders out there have any can’t miss KC BBQ recommendations for hungry listeners far from home? would appreciate.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yes, Michael. I hope she's resting comfortably.
Avatar 👻 1:24pm David Shortell:

I last saw Paul Collins play 3 years ago at the Brighton Bar, on the same night Holly Golightly was playing nearby at 10th Avenue Burritos' short-lived secondary location in Red Bank. I briefly entertained an insane notion to zip between venues and somehow catch both shows, before I settled on Paul. I've no regrets.
  1:29pm Tom O.:

Always a joy to hear Paul Collins & the fellas--great fun in Kingston on Sat. too. Looking forward to the new record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Bill in W.O.:

@andy KC native here - it's hard to find anything but good BBQ in KC, but Joe's KC BBQ is universally acclaimed. There are Gates & Sons joints all over town for good reason, and a visit to the granddaddy of 'em all, Arthur Bryant's at 12th and Brooklyn is sort of a must. But Jack Stack, Rosedale, LC's...I could go on. Enjoy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Michael 98145:

yay - ♫
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Bill in W.O.:

@andy whoops - Bryant's is @ 1727 Brooklyn
Avatar 1:38pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Dave S: I first heard of Holly Golightly from the Broken Flowers movie and later, soundtrack. Her use of guitars like the Byrds used is really awesome.
Avatar 1:44pm northguineahills:

I love stinky basements? Anyone remember Ft Awesome in East Williamsburg Industrial Park. The sewage just flushed to the curb. Then during one show, it backed up into the basement into the performance space during a show. Fun night!

@NGH-who can forget CBGBs legendary bathroom? THAT was an adventure. I was squeamish just micturating. Whew!

@WN: I only got there for the last 9 years, good fun!

  1:49pm paul:

and U.S.A. please
Avatar 1:49pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@NGH-I think I saw maybe 3-5 shows there from 89-94 or so. It was just down the street from Cooper Union. I used to watch Twin Peaks with the bartender at the CBGBs record canteen a couple of times.
  1:51pm paul:

Thank you
Avatar 1:51pm crateslinger:

I was at a Crash Worship show in the basement at C Squat in the early 90's when the sewer backed up so of course somebody poured a can of gasoline onto it and lit it on fire. The pit was all flaming poo and toilet paper.
Avatar 1:52pm northguineahills:

@WN: I only saw maybe 10 shows b/tn '99 until they closed. Only one was garage/punk, the rest were improv jazz or noise.
Avatar 1:53pm northguineahills:

@crateslinger: I had a good friend who dated the drummer from Crash Worship. She was a reserved, demure British girl, so, seeing her play live was rather surprising....
Avatar 1:56pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Stingo Rules!
Avatar 1:56pm northguineahills:

My wife only allows me to by music via WFMU and live shows (I have no more room). So, I buy everything at live shows....
Avatar 1:57pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Crateslinger-at some point did C squat have the Monster Magnet logo on it say 1994 or so? Was it near Houston and C just North of Houston?
Avatar 1:58pm crateslinger:

@NGH - ask him if he was there. @Wild Neil - Ave C between 9 and 10th. They own it now. I don't know what that logo looks like, but you may be thinking of Umbrella House.
Avatar 2:00pm northguineahills:

@crateslinger: I know he wasn't, he was much younger then her and was in HS the year as I in the 90s.
Avatar 2:00pm northguineahills:

(Never saw Crash Worship until 2000)
  2:00pm paul:

Aretha Franklin 'gravely ill,' surrounded by friends and family
Avatar 2:09pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Crateslinger-yes, it WAS Umbrella house. I had a crush on Marta Vi who lived there. I was a dummy! Hope she is ok, but dumb was I , yes.
  2:11pm paul:

Sounds a little like a Nick Lowe song.

Re: Broken Flowers soundtrack.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I only learned last week that "Tell Me Now So I Know" was an unreleased Kinks song they recorded in 1965.
Holly was backed on "There Is an End" by Cincinnati's Greenhornes. The track is on their 2002 album "Dual Mono".
Oh, and thanks for giving me the word "micturate" to add to my lexicon.
Avatar 2:26pm northguineahills:

Thanks Joe and Paul Collins Beat!. I'm off to lunch! salud!
