Good evening , Fred. Eclectic mix today, yet curiously related (beyond the obvious).

Sem:

Hello, David, the Ridgewood cadre, radio friends.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
david w:

Hey, Sem. Kinda quiet here today. Slow summer day, no big projects in the gallery upstairs, and storms approaching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
fred:

This is a great set
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
david w:

This set showcases the high point of Ikue's first fully electronic rig. 3 drum machines, I believe. And Tenko was in full flower.

fred:

@David: Have you ever seen a Sinawi performance? It's traditional improvised music from Korea, and can get close to free jazz
Avatar 3:24pm
geezerette:

Oh god, I like this too! A lot!

@fred: never in person but I place several forms of Korean traditional music high on my list of "musical things that have astounded me" including for form, phrasing, timbre, and that unique wavy thing.

geezerette:

Fred, gonna search that on youtube! Glad you mentioned. :)

I love this set too. The processing is a nice twist

hi! so good!

Yes, after years of hearing musicians tackle this angle, Jin Hi Kim emerges as tastefully restrained, which ages well. Also hard-working, wildly creative and open-minded, etc etc.

Hey, steveo! You know how much I like to see you happy!

Greets back, coel. Starting you out with a shoulder rub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm

this is very good (but so much i've missed, whilst being "ionised")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
fred:

I don't know why it took me so long to clicky-star the whole show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
coelacanth∅:

ah okay! a shoulder rub's a good start!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm

Today, I noticed a pipa-shaped USB key in my boss' office that he got at a conference in China last year. This year's in Paris, and they looked at prices for Eiffel Tower shaped keys: €30 (these hold the proceedings). Then they thought of having the keys embedded in a wind bottle cork: €2. Now they're seriously considering putting those into actual wine bottles as giveaways, that could still fit in the budget

i'm so used to weird synchronicity.
this reminds me of "ionisation", several performances of which i listened to last thing before tuning in.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
david w:

Oh, Fred. When I worked for MoMA/PS1 we had keychain radios tuned to our frequency made in China. 15 cents US!! each.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
coelacanth∅:

it's like ionisation,part 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm

(my playlist is not updating, so i don't know....maybe it actually is)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm

Sorry, late on the update. It's Lou Harrison 1941. Ionisation is 1929 ish.

Been so busy at work, I couldn't get my woofmoo on....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
fred:

@david: I guess MoMA had some business savvy people around. Scientific conferences tend to be organized by scientists (especially lower profile ones like ISMIR), who are not exactly used to do business (though Spotify is basically buying out the field these days)

What sounds, what sounds, what sounds. Earholes smiling, thank you, DW, and Ridgewood collective. Much obliged.

NGH, time out now?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:54pm

Thank you Sem and everyone! Nice little adventure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm amused to think that, to many wfmu listeners, this is a more accessible version of "ionisation", when most people in general would be saying this is just noise!
Avatar 4:57pm

Yeah, finished most of my urgent work, boss and coworkers left. Headache abating.

Thanks David!
