@listenerrobert: "The Internationale" unites the human race. It used to be the organization but these days when people sing it they usually mean the song.

well that's a pickle
  7:00pm
Listener Robert:

But Twist could refer to the dance, Internationale also has that external reference. I meant ones that are purely referential. I know there are others like Tenn. Waltz, but I just can't think of them now.

andrew:

mmmm.
  7:43pm
Listener Robert:

Interesting, I hadn't considered titles like "This Song" (nothing Bright about it). Still, that one's just referring to itself generically. If it had a non-generic name, that'd be what I'm looking for.

I guess most of them are like "The Twist", referring to a hitherto-nonexistent dance. So they're not as paradoxic as "Tenn. Waltz", which according to its lyrics must predate itself. But it must've been an instrumental version referred to by that piece, because if it were being sung at the time in question, that'd've appeared mighty fishy!

"your song"
  Swag For Life Member 7:51pm
12539:

Yes, I think you want something more paradoxical than just self referential.
