...not just as a Curator & Collator of an extraordinary & intense Genre I'd of course have been clueless about
- but indeed his unpretentious outspokenness on facebook - Politically - unsparing, but - indeed - never ever unfriendly - indeed - always forthcoming & personable. Fucking Loved Him.

First, Irwin do you know of any “Hip Bone” episodes that are still around? Air check tapes? They should be digitally preserved.

@RRN63- Welcome back!

Also, I believe a Shooby Taylor billboard would actually bring people to the station. Young and old.

william reached out and chatted with me on facebook before i was even on the wfmu staff and was just a volunteer. it made me feel welcome and everything considering what an iconic presence he was. i told this story in billy jam's comments last week but he patiently listened to me bitching about my nose and told me my nose was great the way it was. that was the last conversation i had with him and it will always stick in my mind, how sweet that was of him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Ike:

I would volunteer to help digitize Hip Bone tapes, if any exist. I can't express how much I fucking loved the Hip Bone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
coelacanth∅:

i have bits of the hip bone on cassette (along with bits of yer ol' pal Irwin) but it's all edited and mixed up and may even not have any William Berger speaking.
Avatar 3:43pm
BronwynB:

@Jake: A Shooby billboard would be amazing!
Avatar 3:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

William told me in his youth he was known as a Tony Iommi (Sabbath) channeler - so it's odd I've finally been tuning down to Baritone & picking out actual Iommi licks just as I hear the sad news. Or - all in the Pattern...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm

I couldn't remember that William plays guitar AND piano on Baby Lemonade.
Avatar 3:50pm

Great faithful Syd cover.
Drums on 'new rose'? Impressed already...
  3:52pm
JakeGould:

Since I’ve basically said I really don’t support the billboard (just gotta be blunt) I will say that WFMU having Kickstarter projects to archive old shows is something I would completely support. That stuff is historic, has a long tail and–in my humble opinion–be good for all.

That’s all I gotta say on the subject.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Michael 98145:

- buy you a Ford Mustang -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Passaic River Blues:

Yeah, the only thing on Grimble's Mill I found were two mentions in archived issues of Cash Box and Billboard from July 1968.

"Disk product, both albums and singles, from the stable of Tom Wilson's Gunga Din Productions will flow through the facilities of MGM Records' 'Community of Labels' operation. … Two other groups, Grimble's Mill from Los Angeles and The Serfs from Wichita, Kansas, were discovered by Tom Wilson and Mark Joseph."

www.americanradiohistory.com...

Also didn't know there was a Music Factory record label for a time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm

Find this Mark Joseph guy, Irwin, and make him talk.

When I pass and there's a memorial, I want it said that every week, wielding a vacuum cleaner, I left the main studio in better shape than it was when I arrived.
  4:44pm
Dean:

Grimble's Mill mentioned in Billboard, July 27, 1968, p.3. "Wilson Signs MGM Deal on 5 Artists."
  4:46pm
Dean:

Similar story in Variety, July 24, 1968, p.47.

If only Lyle were on the comments board. I bet he jammed with the Grimble guys.
Avatar 4:48pm
Carmichael:

Who is Lisa Capuano?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Irwin:

As I mentioned on the air, she was very involved in WFMU's financial survival. Worked closely with Ken on a number of projects. She passed unexpectedly a month ago.
Avatar 4:51pm
Carmichael:

Sorry to hear that, Irwin. I just tuned in a few minutes ago and was reading the comments ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Passaic River Blues:

Lyle would have a story about how Grimble's Mill was a fake band that served as a tax dodging scheme for Tom Wilson, Bebe Rebozo, and Allen Funt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Irwin:

And Liz Berg is gone from the building (but not from the planet). It's been a tough month for the station's extended family.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Irwin:

I think Lyle sleeps deep into the afternoon, often joining the comments board after 5pm. Musician's hours.
