Yeah, a lot of the season was slow but hypnotic, but now it's moving QUICK. Sadly the ratings (at least on regular linear Showtime) have been bad, so this should be the end. And what an end, indeed.

Avatar 4:45pm
V Priceless:

Lynch's direction demands the viewer to engage Season 3 at a pace that seems even more deliberate and lingering in this nutty 'instant info' digital age then it did back in '91, which I personally find thrilling. Made lots of light-weight 'fans' uncomfy, but also weeded them out early. So be it! Ha!

He's the aural equivalent to Light & Space visual art. Also, sonic landscape.
  4:59pm
JakeGould:

@Ike: The pace was not as bad to me as the darkness and the potential the story has for apologizing for the incest and rape of Laura Palmer via interdimensional spirits.

Also, I find that “tree” instead of a dancing midget to be bullshit.

Happy Lynch has been given a platform for his art, but I’m done with “Twin Peaks.”
Avatar 5:01pm
northguineahills:

Yes, I needed that brain-spa!
Avatar 5:06pm
ⓘⓚⓔ:

The ugly story behind the guy who played the dwarf turning into a brain-tree is that the dwarf actor went batshit-crazy and accused Lynch of horrifying insane conspiracy theory-type stuff. I wouldn't have brought him back either.
Avatar 5:06pm
geezerette:

Jake, recently saw "Mulholland Drive" for the first time and felt the same way. Think I'm done with Lynch altogether, even though my own conservatism surprises me. I don't need his darkness in my head.
  5:13pm
nic:

love this !!!
  5:14pm
JakeGould:

I think David Lynch is a great visual artist and he really creates an atmosphere in all of his works. Ever hear of an “Escape Room?” I think he could create an amazing one. But all of his stories and plots are ultimately pedestrian and simple at best. I love “Blue Velvet” but the plot is silly. It’s the world he creates that’s great.

And as far as effing with the genre goes, I think this Showtime series is basically a statement of, “You want to binge on a whole TV series? Binge on this!”
Avatar 5:15pm
TehBadDr:

Lynch has brought the unhinged tangental logic>illogic of dream imagery to television in a way that nobody ever has, or probably ever will. TP3 is tremendous, and especially wonderful that he came out of semiretirement to produce his ultimate masterwork.

Agree he's a great visual artist, a surrealist, love the way he uses music, but you can't love absolutely everything.
I think of him as the flip side of Disney in a way. Together, they provide a fairly complete illustration of the American (searches for less cliched word but can't find one...), "psyche".

@geezerette, this season's Twin Peaks is by far the best thing Lynch has ever done, it's got everything I ask for in an artists work, especially the difficult parts that you have to struggle through, which ultimately makes the show a visionary's art piece rather than the by committee television show. Just my opinion of course,,,,
