So, hopefully with enough consideration, and with full understanding why you did not want another full time gig, none of the choices seemed suited for a 5 day a week show (which matters not a whit, of course).

Perhaps WFMU should stick to its strengths, which is variety? Only an idea, and one that could come about on its own anyways. Just try to avoid the old WPFW trick of having a schedule which says nothing about who is on the air at any given time - though the occasional surprise is always good, of course.

I know you view any sort of negativity here as trolling, but I found the Clay shows to be really irritating. In Europe, I listen during my lunch to the morning show and I felt his music acumen to be inferior to the other morning hosts, his on the street interviews to be patronizing, and his proclivity to talk over the music to be sacrilegious. Clay is incredibly sincere and can speak to anyone. He is humorous, listens to people can does not openly judge people even when he may ethically be in opposition to them. He is a fantastic interviewer, and I have never found him to knowingly patronise anyone. He works SO hard to make his show. He is for REAL.

Listener Robert - Ken is in a much better position than I to answer that question, but the simple answer is that yes, the FCC pays attention when there are complaints, and the FCC has a godawful amount of power over what can and what cannot be legally broadcast.

Germany's version of WFMU, that is WVMÜ (pronounced vay-fow-em-eu) plays all the swearing songs without any restriction. That's how they roll over there !

Well, Colbert was in a gray zone - in that case, you can more clearly see the intersection of politics and the FCC, which is a problem that WFMU is unlikely to face. Apologizing was definitely the smart move.
