And if you do make it to Barbès: If the great music (free of charge) isn't enough, we'll be doling out free FMU swag too - but get there early before we give it all away!

Help keep Barbès alive - it’s a Brooklyn cultural gem!

Barbès is a small Brooklyn club which has been presenting music on a daily basis for 15 years. Started on a shoestring budget in a former barber shop in the South Slope, Barbès has for years acted as a kind of laboratory for all different kinds of new projects and become a true community hub. Transpacific Sound Paradise has proudly broadcast some 25 live music shows from Barbès and we hope to do lots more in the future.

But changing demographics and a new economic reality are now threatening Barbès. Today Barbès owes a total of $70,000 - 20,000 to be repaid before July 1st.

You can support Barbès in two ways:

Again, you can donate to the Barbès crowd funding campaign at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/barbes-needs-help

And / or: Come to Drom, 85 Ave A on Friday June 9th for a Benefit for Barbès featuring a cross-section of the types of artists central to Barbès, including: Innov Gnawa, Bulla en el Barrio, Big Lazy, Maracatu NY and first-time ever brass band supergroup Fanfare Barbes + DJs.

Get tickets to the benefit here - or if you donate to the crowd funding campaign at a high enough level, one or more tickets may be included.

Hi Rob! Finally caught the show from the beginning. Donated to the Barbès campaign.
@Bronwyn Bishop: salmon and kale sounds delicious. Meself, I have a bunch of ramps from the farmer's market that I'm debating how to prepare...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Rob W:

Thanks Grace and thanks Ike for the Georgian bakery tip, didn't know of this place! There are also a few Georgian bakeries and at least one restaurant in Brighton Beach - combine a little fun in the sun with a little khachapuri!

I love Russia because they stand against globalization. Any progressive who thinks a nuclear war against Russia to be a good thing has drunk sooo much Kool aid that judgement is impaired
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Rob and assistants. Looking forward to the next show from Barbès.
Avatar 🌍 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Bas NL:
