Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
@Carmichael: In that case, throw an Impossible Burger on the grill for me!

,,,@gal_x ! a very Botticelli`s Venus - style avatar used with artful taste . In black and white photographically pleasing . My very minor, humble, and honest opinion .
Good evening, Gaylord. I hope the NFL draft met your expectations.

it's unseasonably cool here in
south Arkansas, but I'm on my porch anyway, and with Gaylord's show I'm having something pretty close to a perfect moment.
@Bronwyn Bishop: Frankie's original has a similar arrangement but is surprisingly tamer. The added Johnny Franz bombast of the Walkers' version brings it to life.
9:07pm
Carmichael:
I heard an interview with Bob Gaudio a few years ago, and they played the Valli version. As a Walker fan, I was pleasantly surprised.
@ gal- Wong was rejected for Pearl Buck's "The Good Earth?" What the hell?
Buck's farm is near where we live in Pennsylvania. Lots of paradox to this day.
I love her writing anyway.

Kate:
Hey Gaylord! So great to see you at the Record Fair!! Was that Broadcast and the Focus Group you just played as in Trish Keenan Broadcast? Loving the show so much!
@Old Dave: And heaven forfend we have a Chinese-American actress playing the love interest of a European-American actor — even if he's playing a Chinese character! So guess who had to go...
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: If Columbia hadn't gotten cold feet on releasing Dion's new direction, he would have gotten credit for being a folk-rock pioneer as well as its greatest practitioner. My god, that song I just played!!!
9:34pm
Bronwyn Bishop:
As a huge (unironic) fan of Al Jardine, I'm so happy you're playing this
@Bronwyn Bishop: Alan Jardine is deserving of your love. Such a versatile and unheralded vocalist!
9:37pm
Bronwyn Bishop:
Yeah- when I met him last year, I told him how much I loved his voice and he seemed really surprised and happy that someone had approached him to tell him that.
The Pearl Buck Foundation is a thing, actual and factual. I interviewed their director a few decades ago on behalf of the US Peace Corps. At the time their mission was cleaning up the problem of unwanted an left behind kids of US service men in SE Asia.
Their work is never done...
Sorry, I know politics forbidden now on FMU! I will stop now.
This is a very healing show, Gaylord.
Many thanks.
@Revolution Rabbit Nov63: Yep, Al was the group's folkie.
9:41pm
Bronwyn Bishop:
@Gaylord: true, I love that song!
