HEH! The golden age of Porcupine Tree. [holds up a hand of caution to Cheri]: "it's OK, let this one go, it isn't mature enough for the taxidermist's blessing..."

Sorry to admit my ignorance on Townes VanZandt. That piece had a similar scent to Pearls Before Swine's "if you don't want to, i don't mind" -- and that is a very good thing.

With apologies to Clay Pigeon, I am no longer much of a "Yes" fan, but I still think that the live version of Roundabout on the three-disc live album from the early 70s is the only thing they did that *rocks*. (A la Clay, sings a few bars of Roundabout in "big" vibrato voice)

Top 3 endorsed live LPs - Hawkwind: Space Ritual (sure it's a mishmash of 2 shows + edits & fixes, but what the hell) / Grobschnitt: Solar Music Live / Motorhead: No sleep till Hammersmith ... because rawk.
  3:52pm
Pas Musique:

Live album I love. Dry Humping the Cash Cow by Alice Donut including the fake applause.

Two live records that leap to mind: Television's "The Blow Up" is an old favorite, although I can't say the sound is all that great. LaMonte Young and the Forever Bad Blues Band's "Just Stompin'" punches about as hard as you could want.
  3:55pm
JakeGould:

James Brown “Live at the Apollo” (1963) is great, but parts of it (maybe all?) are faked live.

Ok but anyone like the studio suffragette city better than David live?

Marvin Gaye Live At The London Palladium is very good, but lots of it was re-recorded after the fact.

BOSS SCOTT: I don't suppose live jazz LPs fit that conversation with Trouble? ... it's a different thing. ...cuz "An Electrifying Evening with the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet" totally needs to join my top 3 up there.
  4:02pm
JakeGould:

And how about “The Thelonious Monk Orchestra at Town Hall?” Or does jazz not count in this checker game.
