Stoked to be listening live again (2/3 weeks this year!). Hello Jeff
  12:03am
Erik in Michigan:

Glad to be with all the heady listeners out there.
  12:08am
Dean:

One of my favorite, yet least played, records, is a 3LP set of Robert de Visee. The Coryell is an amazing tribute.

Dean, Studio City. Whereabouts you?
  12:28am

love between - Hamel!!
  12:28am
Dean:

I was in Whittier, far to the east of your location. I do drive through Studio City quite a bit, though, because I visit my mother in La Habra with some frequency. I'm now in Berkeley.

Studio City isn't too far from Van Nuys, where years ago I'd make pilgrimages to the original Moby Disc, one of the great record stores c.1975.

Dean:

This Oregon brings to mind Trio Sonata, a fairly marvelous group whose works now appear on Boston Skyline. Do you know them, Jeff C.?

Ha, Oregon! Did you figure out which song it was?

Diggin the Oregon truly.

Dean, the Moby Disc folks moved to Freakbeat, which is a brief walk down the street from here www.freakbeatrecords.com
Avatar 12:39am
Jeff Conklin:

@Dean: Don't know Trio Sonata, don't really dig on any classical unless its played by a rippig guitarist either ;)

@Jennifer: Ha, still trying to figure it out...
  12:41am
Dean:

Freakbeat looks ... amazing! So happy there has been a revival of places like MD.

Trio Sonata, @JC, might be an entry point. Nothing ripping about it. But it's pretty gorgeous stuff, not confined to any particular era.

Have been listening to so much lake Mary lately (the visit session

@Dean - Despite my California roots and current residency, I actually didn't know much about Kevin Starr...thanks for sharing the article. RIP
Avatar 1:37am

@bbb: As always, don't come to the program expecting anything ;)
  1:38am
Mark R:

Cool that you played some Coryell, too. One of the first jazz-rock guys I got into, and I think he's kind of been forgotten about.
Avatar 1:39am
Jeff Conklin:

@Mark: We'll never forget Coryell around here!
  1:40am
Dean:

@bbb: He has never been the celebrity I suspect he wanted to be. But he was definitely an accomplished historian of California, and at one time our state librarian, an important post, imagine that. RIP, indeed. His work and energy will be missed.

@Dean - I've read a little on the history of libraries in CA but none of Starr's series on CA history. It's funny the article says he stopped in 1963, then picked up again with the 1990s - his wife said he “couldn’t wrap his mind around the '60s and '70s." haha

I remember attending an event at which Starr spoke. I think he was still state librarian at the time. He was blitzed, completely zonkers drunk.
  2:06am
Dean:

@fleep: A friend of mine who *knows* records, just sent me a photo of Freakbeat featuring Bob Say, whom we know from Moby Disc. He happened to visit yesterday. I recognize many records on the wall behind Say. What a store!
