This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Here's a scary thought: those Ultralounge comps came out 22 years ago. We are almost as far removed from the exotica/Lounge revival as the revival was from the original exotica era.

@Scraps i actually reread some of the Tripods books as an adult maybe 15 years ago, and they totally stood up. They are really good.

Anything rating below a 6.0-ish average in this survey is generally an episode so unbelievably terrible (and/or unbelievably boring) that it will cause your face to melt off of your face (TM Dave Hill).

there are exceptions though. He's entirely taciturn sometimes, such as Boorman's Point Blank.
I love him in Dirty Dozen so much

don't get me wrong; i think he's great.
i actually think that a lot of what i think gives him gravity as an actor is that he really was a combat marine. he killed people and got shot twice in wwII and ended up an actor sort of by happenstance. the roles i really like him in are the early 50's western stuff where he projects real menace, and the late 60's war movies where it's clear he knows what war is actually like. he still kind of overdoes it, acting wise, but that's ok by me.

It's like Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs is here in the circle:
