Good evening. Busy ruining dinner. This is for the big residency Chick Corea is doing in NYC?

Van in DC:

Hi.

Really looking forward to the show, and once again, no Samantha Fish. Despite my best attempts to get her played at FMU. Lost cause. Why? Because it was ME that tried to promote her. * deaf ears *

Irene Trudel:

Yeah, L.O.T.! Peter and I are going to see him with Gary Burton & a string quartet tomorrow night, then two shows with John McLaughlin in December. really looking forward to them. Hi Jake and Van. Sorry Van, it's not that you promoted Samantha. She just doesn't move me. I always give music at least one good listen before deciding to pass.

...yeah but - how about somebody w/ chops??...heheh...
Would love to see McLaughlin Live.

Mailman Tom:

We went to see John McLaughlin at Philharmonic Music Hall in NYC back in the early 1970s

I think Samantha Fish is among those people whose recorded music doesn't come across anywhere near as well as their live performances.

I have my iPhone + table radio going for homemade surround. Sounds super

Irene Trudel:

Rev. Rabbit & Mailman Tom, I saw McLaughlin some years ago playing a triple bill with Paco de Lucía and Al DiMeola. Pretty fantastic. Really looking forward to the two shows at the Blue Note (unfortunately sold out). Andrew, you could be right about Samantha. I've seen many musicians in performance and really liked them. Unfortunately their recordings sometimes ruin my enjoyment of the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Irene Trudel:

Hey Tome and KP! I like that surround idea. Doesn't the iPhone have a delay compared with the radio? Must sound mighty nice'n'weird!

I saw KC on this tour...my first time. It was so great.

Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Yeah, Ken! I finished mine just before I came to WFMU tonight. Thanks fleep! I found myself in an interesting groove this morning. Uncle Michael, unfortunately I've not seen KC live. Just missed out on those tickets. But I did see Fripp in the early 80's in a tiny club in Dover, NJ. Amazing!

I had seen Tony Levin once before...on Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey" tour.

Andrew:

Adrian Belew is another person whose recorded music doesn't live up to performance, in my experience. A big favorite of mine. Thanks for the King Crimson.

^^ that's what I got from a website ..only wish I still had the record Works Vol. 1 :(

KP:

Well, Irene ... my radio does not get wfmu here on the East Side. I had been using an internet tuner with it but I received a free tablet when I bought my latest iPhone. I use the tablet as the radio tuner and the iPhone as an iPhone, with its radio on. It is just a little different than the tablet, hence a surround effect.
I've been into the delay thing since it first came in with vcrs and wrote it about back in my pseudo tech days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Tome! I do still have all my ELP LPs, but haven't played that one in years! I remember hearing it on, of all stations, WQXR, when it was released. Got a big thumbs up from the announcer too.

KP, that actually sounds really nice. I particularly like having the same station on all the radios in my house and hearing it fade in and out in different rooms.

coelacanth:

when i was little i was listening to wplj on my clock radio in my room once when "just a singer in a rock n roll band" (i think it was) came on, which has a good bass line, and just as it started my older brother turned on my father's stereo downstairs on the same station with bass up high.
it blew my little mind! -between the bass coming up through the floor and the echo up the 3-turn stairway...
- i made that happen many times after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Irene Trudel:

Wow, c. That must've sounded great. Anyone else have a favorite enhanced listening method?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Uncle Michael:

I have a waterproof pouch for my tablet so that I can hang it from a hook in the shower and listen to music there. I don't know if that's enhanced.

One more hour until Professor Dum Dum steps in for Wm. Berger. I wonder what mischief he's got planned for tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm

i don't know if that's enhanced, but it's awesome!

The best thing about the end of the baseball season (besides my growing collection of Chicago Cubs 2016 World Champions apparel) is the time to enjoy more FMU shows. This is sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Just noticed the "dark" theme if both LC's and David Bowie's final albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
coelacanth:

i wish there would be "naked" versions of all the early Leonard Cohen albums that were produced contrarily to his requests and his liking. he generally wanted them much more stark than they ended up, and i'd usually prefer that for him too. (though i do love the production on his first one, which again was more production than he wanted)
