Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from October 18, 2016 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

The band basically got together in total worship of Australia's 70's titans of heaviness Lobby Lloyd's Coloured Balls and Billy Thorpe's Aztecs, pulling off an abberant wedding of proto-punk and arena rock with panache. Their debut LP is appropriately titled "Electric Glitter Boogie" and they are making their way through the USA for the first time with a slot at Goner Fest in Memphis and cranking the amps up today live on WFMU. The band: Matt ‘Penky’ Penkethman (Drums), Nathan Williams (guitar/vox), and Isaac Ishadi (Bass). Electric Glitter Boogie is out on Cool Death Records, they'll soon be on In The Red! Thanks to the band, Mario, and Ben O'Connell!    2:04:08 (Pop-up)

Isn't the measure of success of a band's performance at WFMU determined on whether or not the fire department has to come over?

It's a famous note he circulated amongst bands playing his Randalls Island rock fest explaining how everyone needs to 'get a look' and add an extra member for TV cameras' sake cuz trios don't cut it. www.goner-records.com...

Weird. I listen to LS's Underground Garage show - & you wouldn't get that impression about him & those bands there...
Avatar 5:17pm

- & Trios are Way Kewl.
Avatar 5:17pm
Brian Turner:

especially the band Trio
Avatar 5:20pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ya. Ya ya.
...Okay - not an especially aggro missive, but a weird idea that 'Garage' can't be fewer pieces...
Avatar 5:23pm
Cecile:

he is a complete moron about trios. Not one of those trios, except maybe for Hendrix are virtuosic, except for maybe making kickass grooves. Oh, and Agent Orange.
Avatar 5:23pm
Cheri Pi:

Venom, Motorhead, HOF, Blue Cheer. Yeah, only a few got famous
Avatar 5:25pm
Brian Turner:

Who cares what he thinks. He plays in a band employing like 5 guitarists at this point and shit doesn't get done like the band we are hearing right now.

what?!?!? "we will continue to support you ... if you are a

Avatar 5:47pm
slugluv1313:

@ Cecile -- Melvins & Nirvana EXACTLY what i was thinking!
and yes, Brian, i agree! who cares!
Avatar 5:47pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

He's got a point that w/ fewer pieces, each must fill more space - & that tends to favor Musos~'Virtuosos'. However - a Trio not looking Kewl enuff? Hendrix had no Style or Visual impact, I suppose?? & 'Garage' can't be done more minimally? Isn't that what 'Garage' is? It's just a nutty statement - but to be fair not the gist of the thing anyhow or leaned on heavily in tone...he's just riffing & he happens to be Managing this thing...But - I don't think the acts @ that were a buncha unknowns who needed primary coaching - that's weird...
Avatar 5:49pm
slugluv1313:

Cream? Hendrix? they are part of what DEFINE rock history!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
Michael 98145:

@RRN63, yup. i frequently listen to Underground Garage, too.
Avatar 5:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & define 'Virtuoso' - but there are plenty of Garage/Punk trios - & it had nothing to do w/ visual impact or success - he's just weirdly incorrect...
Avatar 5:53pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...three & four & five are all Magickal numbers of their own...
