Hello! I missed the effective apology lesson?
Avatar 1:12pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

What are all these angles so angry about?
  1:13pm
JakeGould:

I think angles of less than 45 degrees can be interpreted as angry.

Aaaaaah! The ice cream truck music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
mariano:

I used to joke with an old friend of mine about a tortured classical composer trying to finish his symphony and being right at the last part when that ice cream truck parks outside his window and ruins it all.
Avatar 1:36pm
Goatpuncher:

This is the superior ice cream truck music! That other ice cream truck music is inferior and must be exterminated! (Or "deprecated" as the current silly business lingo goes.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Michael 98145:

@GP, yes! where the hell did that word come from, anyway?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
mariano:

Love that business lingo -- downsizing gets called "rationalizing" a company and all kindsa other lovely stuff. As a graphic designer I've done my fair share of boring page-layout stuff for corporate clients. I remember one presentation on strategic management, or SM as it was abbreviated, leading to all sorts of page titles like "Should we practice SM in our LA office?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Michael 98145:

our fog of middle management has decided to call itself Governance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
drr:

"Deprecated" is meaningful if you work in PHP or javascript, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
mariano:

Governance, hah! New York is also a "right to work" state, which means that you can get fired on the spot with no reason given. Of course, it makes you a shoo-in for unemployment, since the unemployment questionnaire asks if you were given cause for termination, or given any warning along with a chance to address whatever issues led to your termination.
  1:45pm
Anonymous Coward:

Pretty sure "deprecated" probably came into business lingo from software. In Software it generally means something that's been replaced but is sticking around so as not to break other shit that uses it. It should be removed if possible in the future as the replacement comes into wide use.
  1:46pm
Anonymous Coward:

I think i put myself to sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Liz Berg:

Wow, a window into corporate speak! Hilarious! Anyone out there disrupting today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
chris:

new Shadow! Cali represent!
Avatar 1:49pm
steve:

new DJ Shadow?! who knew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Liz Berg:

Yeah, the new DJ Shadow disc is killer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Michael 98145:

we are disrupting, innovating with agility and resiliance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
mariano:

@Anonymous Coward: I don't think it's boring at all, not knowing anything about software development/programming I thought it was interesting. The linguistic aspects of programming languages are interesting in general I think. @Liz: Indeed, I'm generating a host of outside-of-the-box ideas across a broad range of competency silos to achieve ever-growing synergies among our core offerings.
Avatar 1:51pm
steve:

i vomit a little bit every time i hear:

Agile, Scrum, framework, innovator, innovation lab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
mariano:

I think a part of my soul just died by writing that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Michael 98145:

@steve, the jargonistas rule the roost
  1:52pm
JakeGould:

I think I just deprecated my pants.
Avatar 1:52pm

Howdy folks.
Hope you got to see the kick ass speech Michelle Obama delivered last night! Brilliant! Elizabeth Warren and finally Bernie Sanders all said things you've never heard on broadcast media before. Cause for hope people. :D

I keep switching between broke artist and comfortable cubicle.
I've been at this job almost two years (longest ever) and I have my resignation all typed up and ready to print. Probably Friday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
mariano:

@drr: It's taken some effort over the last few years, but I've more or less managed to migrate to completely off-site freelance gigs with the occasional on-site one, it's definitely doable. On-site is good though because of course you get paid even for downtime. Like today -- I'm basically a seat-warmer in case anything comes up, so I'm getting paid to listen to FMU, one of life's little victories!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Liz Berg:

I saw this show at PS1 last year that really did a great job of splattering all the corporate/tech/bubble garbage into something beautiful and terrifying:

ha that looks great (and scary) Liz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm
Michael 98145:

( good show, DJ Liz )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm

Looks like a good show at PS1. There are also a few business jargon bots that are pretty funny.

she has a hot voice
  2:11pm
Anonymous Coward:

Pretty sure that was Miles Davis on the boards for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Michael 98145:

I confess i never heard Betty Davis before WFMU.
"She met Miles Davis in 1967 and married him in September 1968."

Was this the theme to the RNC?
Avatar 2:14pm

@mariano: I'm a Wittgensteinian developer. I always approach designing an interface as building a language-game. I'll probably get fired soon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm

@mariano: that is the dream. I'm interviewing for a developer job at an animation company tomorrow. It'll either be the best of both worlds or the worst.

This sounds like Dolly Parton...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm

@fred: I have lots of respect for interface developers, it's not in my bag of tricks. @drr: best of luck with that! Sounds like it could be a great gig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm

@Wild Neil: I get a lot of grief for being a Dolly Parton fan. I won't apologize for it

RIP ms cleo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
mariano:

Omg was that Miss Cleo?!? "Ya mess op!"
Avatar 2:28pm
Wild Neil:

@Fred-the moment I heard "Jolene" on a Denny's Diner mixed tape gotten at the behest of my ex-girlfriend I have been a fan. She is fantastic. Also Johnny Cash, Merl Haggard and a few others of the old country music scene. Most of the new stuff leaves me cold.
Avatar 2:30pm
cee:

liz, you're awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
Michael 98145:

it's in the cards
  2:34pm
JakeGould:

Miss Cleo was right… He was cheating on her!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
fred:

Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard were great too. But being french, these open me to ridicule. I embrace it, coming from people who worship Johnny Hallyday

That blues song was right… She was cheating on him!

I thought Dolly Parton was really popular in Europe in general, at least with a certain crowd.
