I was gonna suggest Jaap Blonk reading James Joyce's thunder words for this rainy night but apparently I imagined that he recorded that.

Baby Gramps is heavily into model railroads these days.

Dan Bodah:

I had the pleasure of introducing Baby Gramps at a festival (Hobofest!) a couple of years ago...

I heard them playing that Shu-De record in a Tower Records (back when they still had Tower Recordses) and immediately ran and bought it and began my new life.

I like to imagine Obama watching her perform and then just walking up to her and handing her a medal.

And being like, "that was quite something, Miss. Monk."

@ranjit, that's an opening for your inspirational memoir right there.

Oh wow, I missed Shu-De! Well, I have that CD which I think I obtained from the WFMU Record Fair from some years back...

Ever seen 'How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin' ? When they show examples of how Square their music was - I rather think most FMUvians would go - kewwwl...

I wonder if Mr. Blumin ever played this on his show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Dan Bodah:

@RRNov63, never saw that, but I agree that Soviet music had a lot of richness. Whenever I see old used Melodiya records at tag sales or record fairs I always snatch them up for a listen if I can.
