Hi Dave, everyone! I once read that one of the possible writers of Greensleeves was ol' loverboy Henry VIII himself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...in fact, he was just the Producer - but we weren't in a position to argue...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm

Haha, Rabbit! Was gonna say, you didn't want to be on the receiving end of Henry VIII saying "Alas my love, you do me wrong."

I don't suppose you have any Joni Mitchell cued up? Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm

I mean that in a positive sense. I like surprises like this.
Avatar 8:15pm

@melinda: I know. I didn't take it as a criticism.
@PMD: 'fraid not, not tonight.

Ok. Was just in the mood. Carly is close enough I guess. :-)

Thanks. I'll try to remember next week. For the most part once I'm here in the studio, the die is cast.

I love Cirrhosis of the Heart.

I hope you mean the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm

Wow, never heard this Cat Stevens track before, cool! He's almost rockin' and rollin' in places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
melinda:

haha
Avatar 8:50pm
Dave Mandl:

@mariano: Very good LP, though it's not all so rockin'.
Avatar 8:50pm
fleep:

Eclectic verging on random tonight, keep going!
Avatar 8:52pm
Dave Mandl:

Thanks, I'll try. But if you try to be random, is it still random?
  8:52pm
P-90:

Good evening Dave and Echoids. Man, You're Sunday night shifts have jiggled back and forth so many times I can't keep track any more. Don't get me wrong though, any time is fine with me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
joeray:

Evening, Dave!
Avatar 8:54pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey there P-90, joeray.
@P-90: I know, I have shifted back and forth a bit. Might change again in the fall!
  8:56pm
P-90:

@fleep: Funny you use that phrase, an ex-girlfriend once described my lovemaking technique as "eclectic verging on random..."
Avatar 8:57pm
Dave Mandl:

A compliment, I guess?
  8:58pm
P-90:

Maybe if you're Brian Eno's ex-girlfriemd...
  9:01pm
P-90:

And Cat Stevens is truly underrated. The range, depth, and inventiveness of his stuff will surprise you if you're only casually familiar, but dig in a bit deeper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
melinda:

Funny story about looking for the Cat Stevens record. People are weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...good, spiritually sincere writer, distinctive singer, great rekkids - what's the problem w/ the Catman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& I lean antipopulist...
Avatar 9:10pm
Dave Mandl:

@RRN63: I guess he was seen as uncool '70s pop. "Wild World," etc. But those are great records.
  9:14pm
Carmichael:

Heya Dave and Echolalians. I'm a Cat Stevens fanatic. The earlier the album, the better, imho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
melinda:

He's the music of Harold & Maude, too.
Avatar 9:17pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey, Carmichael. Yeah, agreed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
melinda:

I like Mona Bone Jakon, in spite of the title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
melinda:

The album, I mean. Song not as much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah P-90 got it: Cat's one of those Artists for whom there is a common perception & also a better-informed perception. Even his 'overplayed' stuff is quality tho'.
  9:20pm
Carmichael:

@revrab: he was used by politicians at the onset of organized hatred of muslims. Until they ran into the human chain saw named Dolly Parton. The FBI actually admitted it had no evidence against Stevens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the Duhbya Administrations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
coelacanth:

greetings Dave and all
Avatar 9:30pm
fleep:

Like "Untitled" art. Makes it artier.
Avatar 9:31pm
Dave Mandl:

Hey there, coelacanth.
Avatar 9:32pm
Dave Mandl:

@fleep: Yeah, I'm only half serious. Normally I wouldn't care about the titles, but it makes a DJ's life difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
mariano:

Ooh, what did Dolly Parton do?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
coelacanth:

Cat Stevens was considered a superstar in his prime. -not underrated at all. ...dropping off the scene to make only religious music, then saying it's acceptable to kill non-muslims probably had something to do with his decline in popularity,.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
mariano:

I thought with Stevens it was because he refused to condemn the Ayatollah's fatwa against Salman Rushdie. But didn't he later disavow that position?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
coelacanth:

(he did later retract that and said he misinterpreted the koran)
...i'm curious too what Dolly Parton did in relation to Cat.
  9:34pm
Carmichael:

Dolly kicked some major league ass, until the administration finally released Cat. It can be seen in the concert/bio Majikat.
Avatar 9:34pm
Dave Mandl:

Wow, I didn't know that story. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
mariano:

Another reason to love Dolly Parton! Class act all around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
coelacanth:

yes mariano, the Salmon Rushdie controversy is how Cat got involved, i guess.
Avatar 9:36pm
fleep:

And she also did this (for laters) www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth:

(there's also a youboob video somewhere of the interview where Cat says these things.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I saw humorous Gordon Monahan performance this summer with him and a dancer. The dancer started out getting his foot stuck in a bucket, knocking ladders and tables over, and then stepping on mouse traps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
coelacanth:

i was listening before by the way, sans computer, and Yes! to Carly Simon! ...and Flipper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
mariano:

Interesting that Dolly covered Peace Train, thanks for the link, fleep! I remember something about 10,000 Maniacs refusing to cover that song for a compilation right around the time of the Rushdie affair because of his then-support for the fatwa. The song seems like a real rallying point one way or the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
melinda:

I never knew about the Dolly Parton part either.
  9:43pm
Carmichael:

Is anyone familiar with a guy called The White Buffalo? I saw him last night on a whim. Strummy acoustic mood singing goodness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm
coelacanth:

Andrew that sounds like Charlie Chaplin!
Avatar 9:44pm
Dave Mandl:

@Carmichael: Not me.
Avatar 9:44pm
Dave Mandl:

@Andrew: Wow. Was that part of the act? Pretty cool.
  9:45pm
Carmichael:

He's from Portland OR, kinda Mumford and sons, Iron and Wine, that kinda thing. The wife enjoys him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
Andrew Waterloo:

He's done a few interesting things here. He's originally from a small town not far from here.
  9:49pm
Carmichael:

Thanks, Andrew. I'll check him out!
Avatar 9:50pm

Andrew Waterloo: Is this what you saw? It sounds great.

This Roscoe Mitchell track sounds like a lot of apartment doorbells are being clunk at once.
Avatar 9:52pm
Dave Mandl:

@Jake: Could be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
Andrew Waterloo:

#fleep.. yes same performance different venue :)

This is gorgeous.
