Kerouac. He was something. I played a brief stint with Jerry Vale some years back. Where were we? Nebraska? No, it was Pueblo, Colorado. Anyway, we were having eggs after the show one night, as was our custom. Jerry loved a Western Omelette. Always ordered the same thing. As we were dining, in walks this ragtag looking young drifter. I didn't pay it much mind until I ran into him in the men's room a little while later. He told me his name was Jack and that he was writing a book about traveling the open road. I told him that was something I could understand as a journeyman trombonist. We didn't shake hands in there, but we nodded warmly, and I told him I'd keep an eye open for his book. It was hard not to envy him as I watched him eat his pie and flirt with the waitress. He was free. The rest of us climbed on the bus en route to Jerry's next gig. Where was it? Greeley, I think ... or was it Casper? It was a long time ago. Enjoying the program Daniel. Always do.

Maybe, maybe not, @Steve. Just to confuse matters even further, I'll say that if Lyle guested on Clay's show, his voice would probably sound pretty familiar. Maybe like a stoner version of the Old Codger, if such a thing can be imagined.

Jake- fun fact : i have a c.1932 dictionary that i like to use to see definitions before they were perverted, if the perversion was somewhat recent, and "music" has several accepted definitions, even then...one of which is any sound or mixture of sounds that someone enjoys hearing. (i can't quote it, as i don't have it with me)
...this in a dictionary who's definition of "pagan" includes "heathen"; "godless".
