Holy Schnikees. Staying home for this program beats going out to any stuopid bar on this brownish planet! Beautiful!

i kept a notebook of what i liked 'till about 4(?) years ago, when i started listening via computer because my antenna was broken. i've done that since i was about 14 (?) also. (not wfmu, generally.)
  1:46am
rw:

How big is that notebook, coel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am
coelacanth:

hey rw! as i remember- 2 spiral-bound notebooks, college ruled, 2 entries/line (100 pages each?...both sides). the older one must've been 3/4 full, and i think i was more like 11-12 when i started it. the first entry was "lothar and the hand people".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am
coelacanth:

did you ever keep one?

loving the sounds! yes!

I remember starting a list of band names in Jr. High. It got fairly long but I don't remember how long. I lost interest once I started doing stuff like getting band names from the dividers at the record store. It was more fun when it was all from memory.
  2:12am
rw:

Coincidentally the first band name was Lothar and the Hand People!
  2:14am
rw:

Okay. That's a lie. I don't remember the first band name. Maybe Blue Oyster Cult. Or Pink Floyd. Something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am
coelacanth:

hahaha! i was just about to ask if you were shitting me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am
coelacanth:

...ironically....after all these decades and thousands of records, i still couldn't tell you what lothar and the hand people sound like!
  2:19am
rw:

They had a theramin. That's where the Hand People come in. I think they were sort of psych folk pop but I'm not totally sure.
  2:23am
rw:

Actually, I think maybe Lothar is the name of their theremin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am
coelacanth:

the purpose of the notebooks was so i could seek out the music eventually...i guess i should find lothar and the hand people music before i die!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am
coelacanth:

yes, lothar was the theramin, according to wikipedia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27am
coelacanth:

i'm moving soon. maybe i'll come across those notebooks. 'should be amusing.
  2:28am
rw:

My dad had a compilation LP with a Lothar and the Hand People track on it when I was a little kid. I remember being intrigued in part because of their name. I think I've got a CD re-release somewhere too. My memory is that the CD is a little uneven but probably worth checking out.
  2:29am
rw:

Moving sounds awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am
coelacanth:

yeh, it's kinda weird that i never forgot that band name yet never familiarized myself with their music. none of their song titles are ringing a bell though, and i know i wrote a song down. (because i always did)
...now i really want to find the (earlier) notebook.
  2:41am
rw:

It's a pretty memorable band name. I wonder if it was on my list in Jr. High. I'll bet it was. Just not likely first. Pretty sure Alice Coltrane was not on my list unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am
coelacanth:

...along with my later notebook, once wfmu started archiving programs, i kept one with whole episodes listed - each of many djs having his/her own page(s)...just in case i one day got a computer!
  2:45am
rw:

Good luck finding the notebooks! I'm sure it would be fun to revisit!

And I'm out. Good night! Thanks Jesse! Have a good week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am
coelacanth:

good night rw.
  2:45am
rw:

Ha! Sort of psych folk pop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am
coelacanth:

haha! there it is! Thanks Jesse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am
coelacanth:

i like it! i'm sure much of what i wrote down when i was 12 i wouldn't like now; but yeah it is good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am
coelacanth:

Thanks Jesse. have a great week!
