hi William and listeners good to be here

Wm.:

@JayD I know! I found an old CD booklet last night & this was in it. Crazy obscure Kraut one-off LP. The whole album is quite bent, in a gorgeous way.

GREETINGS ALL!! WE'VE A GOOD TABLE TONIGHT. BOARDINGHOUSE REACH ENCOURAGED.
  12:23am
JayD:

Oh my yes, this High On Fire track. Off to a grand start tonight, brother.

Bats! or other things. Okay!

Vinegar makes me yearn for Der Electrolurch. Solid stuff. Second the High on Fire kudos.

Good Evening, Wm. and Castle dwellers!
Avatar 12:27am
Wm.:

Hi slugluv1313! @Dean you're killing me b/c I listen to that Guru Guru song regularly, it's something I just have to hear now & again....
Avatar 12:28am

ooooh, I like this already. [put on headphones]

Yep, that and Grobschnitt's live Solar-Music are mainstays.

@Scraps when you wrote that I was thinking of a Keystone-cops style shootout. WTF are you psychic?!
Avatar 12:32am

@Dean it's like you know me
  12:33am
Dean:

Wasn't everybody listening to that stuff in high school mid-'70s?
Avatar 12:34am
Scraps deSelby:

[takes off headphone] What?

That cover.... so good!
Avatar 12:35am
Wm.:

Dunno, I'd like to imagine that they were. I'm 51 & I got deep into Krautrock in the early 80s, so I was playing a bit of catch-up. ...

Criminy! Loving this track

BROTHER!
  12:39am
Dean:

I jest. Some of us were listening, but not a full percent of the campus population, and I couldn't be more pleased that these bands have endured. I remember hearing tracks from "the new Guru Guru" album on Long Beach's (CA) progressive rock station in '76 or so. It was genuinely exciting.
Avatar 12:42am

A "real radio station" playing Guru Guru--warms the heart to hear that.
  12:44am
Dean:

Very real. Very radio. Good times those.
  12:44am
Dean:

And yet, I've already notified a friend to check out Alkerdeel. Good times these.

NOW is a great time, there's so much exciting new music, at least in the realms I favor

My iPad and Castle of Quiet doesn't seem to work well. So I'm using my phone to comment. Weird, but it seems to work (with the iPad playing the music). I mean, I still have to stay here with my rehab. ANYway.

Real sweet guy actually. My bandmate just told him about tape headcleaners. He was surprised.
Avatar 1:45am

Ha! I always just use a dab of alcohol to clean tape heads...my Grandad was an audiophile & indoctrinated me in that stuff....
Avatar 1:46am

Real audiophiles are pretty rare in the midwest. Working at a record store made that very apparent.

Some peoples I know who are way more knowledgable than me pronounce it Schul-Ze. Am I wrong? I need answers!
Avatar 2:30am
Wm.:

That is probably the correct German pronunciation, yes. I grew up around a lot of synth-music freaks & they all pronounced it the way I do. Force of habit, yes, probably "Americanized." I wouldn't discount either pronunciation, only b/c the one I use is the one I've heard used by many.
Avatar 2:33am
Swan_Gone:

Regardless dude is legend. On that Walter Wegmuller Tarot record he announces him the way us Americans say it so I dunno.

@Swan_Gone So funny you mention that! Years & years ago, 90s, a colleague here challenged my pronunciation, and that was my defensive citation! Ha.

Avatar 2:50am
Swan_Gone:

German is such an alien tongue to me. It creates a great abstract context for much of the tunes I love.
Avatar 2:55am
Wm.:

I'm familiar with pronunciations in German, I heard quite a bit of Yiddish as a youth and it was good prep. I'm just gonna refer everyone back to that Walter Wegmüller / Tarot LP where Klaus is introduced (by a German, speaking in English) as "Kla-Shoo," no "uh" emphasis at end; that is what Swan is referring to anyway ... they were all quite high, I'm sure....
Avatar 2:56am

Also it's "The Fool" track so maybe a piss is being taken.

Digging the Alkderdeel. Wonder if they'll do vinyl. Also the Hebosagil, no surprise there.
