Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
@glenn: They really weren't, except in some odd associative way. I may have to start using the phrase "punk adjacent" for bands of the punk era who weren't punk in sound at all.
@dale: That was Natalie Wood actually singing, not Marni Nixon or Jackie Ward. She had an okay enough voice that was not up to the prevailing standard of movie musicals at the time.
...some programs are Environments like that - Bethany's Stochastic Classical program was an immersive escape...The comments board is *almost* a pity - Morricone Island too - I wish I wan't addicted to typing like this sometimes so I could just lie back & visualize...
JakeG - I've always said that...

Mr C:
Exotic is my new thing. Monica and I are going soon...
See - the Lounge is gone. People are overloading beer w/ hops - but what we really need is Kewl hangouts to drink in !...(Granted - I'm in NewHampshuh...)
@Rabbit: I know what you mean about being addicted to typing. I love being able to interact with people here but keep telling myself I need to take a break more often and listen with more attention the way I used to.
6:40pm
JakeGould:
@RevRabbit: If it's any comfort, here in NYC bars that are chill, cool and nice to just hang out in are becoming rarer. So many artisanal beer dumps that charge $8 for crappy ale and try to rush you out. The culture of slacking is dying.
@RevRabbit: Oh, many of the rich millennials patronize and even own these bars. But they're all dudebros. None of them have any respect for arts and culture.
