Ain't that a beautiful photograph, Doug. Happy memories are a fine thing.

Just returned from Hugoland. How odd that Paul and I were there within a week of each other. We were mob-handed, eight in all and a wonderful time was had by all.

Archivetimeliness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Jeff Golick:

I recognize that smile. It lives on in you, Doug.
Avatar 12:18pm Flash Strap:

I thought the exact same thing, Jeff (though I've only seen something like 3 photos to go by). See you at 6:00, Doug!
Avatar 2:18pm Carmichael:

My thoughts go out to you and your family, Doug. I hope she had a long and wonderful life.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm listener james from westwood:

Speaking of Emerys, or Emorys, and this song: Dave Emory of all people did a surprisingly good version of this, over the phone, for a Hoof 'n' Mouth one year. And deep, too! Not Robeson deep, but still.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:21pm listener james from westwood:

(Or maybe it was during a pledge show. Either way, not something one would have expected.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Not sure I could handle Robeson on this show, Listener James. My tears would wreck the equipment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Doug Schulkind:

I remember the Dave Emory call-in well.
Avatar 6:23pm Tony Coulter:

Odd. This Bobby Brown LP on now is in a pile of records right in front of me.

@ Doug: Indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

I know you know, Diane. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Charlie:

Dave Emory also once sang House of the Rising Sun with the Hoof and Mouth, possibly also over the phone.
Avatar 6:27pm glenn:

and also general condolences to all re: super tuesday.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:27pm listener james from westwood:

Just hearing Robeson's version in my head was enough to start the waterworks. I hear ya on that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Charlie:

Love hearing all these versions. I'm partial to a version by Fats Waller.
Avatar 6:28pm ndbob:

Fats on the pipe organ. He does a spellbinding version of "Go Down Moses."

Thank you all for always being there. It means more than can could ever express.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Uncle Michael:

My hope is that for you, it may be something like it's been for me, Doug. With time, the grief abated and the heart healed. The raw sadness of loss has eased. As its balm; the memory of how special my mother was to me...all she meant to me, and the myriad ways she's always with me makes me happy, even as each time I feel that happiness, I once again taste the sadness of her absence.
Avatar 6:58pm Flash Strap:

damn. damn doug you must have the biggest heart in the world. i'm sobbin like a stormy day
Avatar 6:59pm Mayuko:

Your mom's love will shine on always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Parq:

Hi, Doug. Listening on the archive while waiting for Charlie's show to start. Sorry I couldn't listen live. I had to be out and about Tuesday evening. If it makes it any better, I was at an event sponsored by a left-leaning (well, at least somewhat so) Jewish organization, New York's Jewish Lawyer's Guild. I toasted your mom with a good friend who was also in attendance. Best regards. -KJ
  4:08pm oemer:
