So which other dead musicians aren't returning your calls and emails?!

That damned Buddy Holly is a stuck up bastard. He never returns anything.

The question is which dead musicians ARE returning them!

I hope Lloyd Price is OK.

Reminds me of the time a British journo called the Polydor press office for an interview with Jimi Hendrix, because "Crosstown Traffic" was in the charts after being used in a TV ad. The year was 1990.

ditto to "Girl of My Dreams".

Jeff from Rahway:

The Starland Ballroom is a scary joint right out of some creepy movie. Ted Leo opened there years ago for Against Me and the crowd was not fond of TL. I thought I was gonna get the crap kicked out of me by the aggro bouncers and fans. I found some retired cop to hang out with and discuss college football but Against Me and this venue were awful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
Ken From Hyde Park:

It just occurred to me. Whatever happened to Rerun from the old TV show What's Happening!!?

i agree starland ballroom thats there own click then when you get inside then they pick and choose
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Well, a few seconds of Google results say Fred Berry became an ordained minister and died in 2003 at age 52. That's too bad.
  11:39am
John:

Which dead musicians are returning their calls? I guess there art least two ways to answer...

1) Phil Lesh, etc.

2) Styx, Genesis, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, etc: bands who refuse to stay dead.

Cactus Blossoms need a new sound guy -- vocals are mixed way too low.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
Jeff from Rahway:

IIRC, Starland Ballroom usually books more hard rock and corporate punk bands. I'm sure the young ladies at your gig really wished they were at a Florda-Georgia Line concert,

...I wager Cactus Blossoms consider the comparison overstated - but it's like having new Everlys tracks - just that good - not just the singing but great songs...

"missippi"? they spell it right in the song. which is great.
Avatar 11:46am
Jimmy Wipper:

I hear there are a lotta tomatoes down at the Starland Ballroom!
  11:46am
Tommy Caldwell:

Mike, were you out on the floor or in one of the bar cubbies? Sounds like, from the conversations going on, you were by one of the bars. I've been to Starland so I know the layout and you described it accurately. I find when you're on the floor, where you go to actually listen to the band, the crowd is paying attention to the artist. By the bar it's all chatter. It's a bar, what do you expect? And yes, it is a New Jersey bar, so the girls say like alot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am

@Rev.Rabbit: yes, I concur!
  11:47am
Eddy in Australia:

I came for the rant, I'm staying for the hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
James in ATL:

Michael, Thanks for your story about Starland. We have a concert park in Atlanta called Chastain which is in an ultra expensive neighborhood and has extreme sound limits and a curfew. My favorite quote from a friend is, "I went there to hear Elvis Costello and all I heard about all night was Megan's summer dress."
  11:47am
Hackensack Slim:

I feel your pain, Michael. And when it's sold out, there's no escape from the jabbering nitwits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am

In the south, they teach you how to spell Mississippi. It's like this: "M I crooked letter crooked letter I crooked letter crooked letter I humppack humpback I."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...which is a bit like a Costello line - haha...
  11:49am
Eddy in Australia:

@James in ATL: That said, Megan's summer dress *was* pretty cute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am
ChrisB.:

Starland is a dump, and the staff considers their jobs more like cow punching and cattle herding. The goal is to "get this thing over with," and avoid an excessive amount of personal injuries.

Emmit Rhodes is such a nice humble and direct person. Thanks for this interview.
