Hi William!

anybody else listening to this NEKKID?

New Dark Blue? Cool. This guy's voice is like a rag dipped in kerosene.

@SiHV you're all over lately, bon vivant; @Bronwyn Maintaining those cute curls?!
Avatar 12:12am
Wm.:

Yeah, I love this band! He could sing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" & make it sound sinister.

Yeah, it's a perm so they'll be around for a while!

Approve. Saw Mercyful Fate at the Bayou in DC in...'95? When they were already allegedly past their prime. They ripped.

I loved last week's show! Excited to be able to hear this one live.

Thanks, Mike! They like me in the Midwest, where metal is still king....

wm + castle heads...what Mondo Macabro DVDs would you recommend as starters?

You know of any greats from Minneapolis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am

@Mike: False is from Minneapolis! They are fucking awesome. Female-fronted black metal. She sounds like hell's visitation upon the earth.

@Jaackk You definitely NEED Alucarda. The Girl in Room 2A is excellent, as is Panic Beats, Don't Deliver Us From Evil, Aswang, The Killer Must Kill Again, Lady Terminator ...

awesome. I hear I also need to read the mondo Macabro book.

This “Black Panties” is pretty good.
Avatar 12:37am

The Mondo Macabro book is great, indispensable. I learned so much from it; read it in 2000 and immediately began hunting down all the films discussed. Pete Tombs also co-wrote Immoral Tales, which is quite good for the European stuff, like Naschy, Borowcyzk, Rollin etc.
  12:42am
jaackk:

Wow if only it was in print...
  12:43am
jaackk:

although I do see it is available in the (less preferable) e-book format

Reporting for doody. Sorry I'm late. Nice to come in with Cherubs.

Curious, is you or is you not a Bowie fan? perhaps he suited enough occult sensibility for you or something, probably not. Just curious.

I like Sewer Goddess.
  1:09am
Arvo:

I'm glad to know you like Bowie, I was just curious because I do know you're not into pageantry. That is one thing I am able to talk about. I can't talk about horror movies, you are my secret connection to horror movies and the archetypal 80s metal kid (and earlier) sprout mind. I wish I listened to something other than gangster rap when I was a kid.
  1:16am
Arvo:

I know you don't do homages, but I just thought I would tell you that today is one of my favorite days to remember what day it is.

Joe Meek did seances in the 50s and was a huge fan of Buddy Holly. In one seance, he envisioned that the death of Buddy Holly would happen on February 3rd. He struggled to contact Buddy Holly, and actually did without any real notoriety himself, warning him not to go out on that date. Buddy Holly died in a plane crash February 3rd the following year. 8 years or so later Joe Meek did a murder suicide on February 3rd. Phil Spector wanted to work with Meek, but Meek considered him to be a charlatan. On February 3rd was the date Spector killed that girl and went to jail. I am a fan of the work of Joe Meek (and Phil Spector) regardless, and I don't care if you like them! I won't ask anymore questions.

I am chuffed about Hiroshi Hasegawa and others too.
Avatar 1:19am
Wm.:

Love Joe Meek! The day the music died :(
  1:23am
jaackk:

seen any other films of note recently?
  1:24am
JakeGould:

FWIW, back when I was 24 or so I worked a fairly miserable office job. First job out of college. And some guy on the street accosted me for a survey. This was weird because they were out on the street all the time and they never asked me to participate before. So we start to talk and the guy says, “So you’re in your 40s right?” And I say, “No, I’m 24…” And the blood rushes from the guy’s face and he just said, “Wow… Are you sure?” The same job caused enough stress that whenever I went to the Walgreens nearby a few people thought I was the “manager” because I was white, burned out and wore a shirt and tie.

So it happens. Ever look at what some hipster kids look like in “day job” clothes?
  1:29am
Arvo:

Incidentally someone did call me on the day Bowie died to ask me if I was okay. I was listening to his new album! And of course, I am not the type to mourn that much, but I do homages and whatnot, I raise my glass. I noticed the Lemmy, didn't notice the Bowie.

Congratulations on living long enough to get senior discounts! If I'm ever in town, we can get oatmeal somewhere. I will stop burdening you with my rambel.

@jaackk Why yes...I really liked Hair Extensions, a Japanese horror, by the director of Cold Fish, featuring the girl with the spiked mace from Kill Bill...what else? I'd have to think...nothing else jumps out. Maybe Better Call Saul...
Avatar 1:31am
Wm.:

Thanks JakeGould, I think I just plain look old; I blame drugs & women, so yeah it was worth it....
  1:31am
Arvo:

By the way, I enjoyed your year end list.
"It Follows" was monumental for me, and I wasn't able to share that with anyone, nobody else really "got it".

Oh yeah, sion sono! I've heard about that.

@Arvo I don't know why It Follows inspired such dislike; it hit all the right notes for me. @jaackk Yes! Killer hair, big, lumpy rooms full of it.

Another personal favorite on Mondo Macabro DVD, I neglected to mention before—Living Doll! www.imdb.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am

jaackk, definitely would recommend all those MM movies Wm. mentioned above especially Alucarda! Make sure to include Sinner: The Secret Diary of a Nymphomaniac on that list.

IS this Demonik Attakk a cover? of Genocide SS or something? I know I've heard it. Or are you doing two covers in a row now, this is familiar.

Living Doll... yes!

@Arvo not a cover, as far as I know a Bloodhammer original. Funny you mention Genocide SS, was recently thinking about pulling out that Going Down to Die CD ...
Avatar 1:47am

whup the GSS album is called We Are Born of Hate, fun stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am
Rory:

Great set btw!
  1:53am
Arvo:

This is a killer set, yeah. The storm is ending here in Chicago.

The GSS album I speak of has a billion secret tracks on it, and I think "Demonic Attack" is one of them. I bought it in 1997 from the label, along with everything else for cheap. My first d-beat etc. Blew my mind. That album also has a cover of Misfits, and a cover of Shitlickers, a personal favorite.

Thanks guys! Enjoying the set immensely myself. Maybe Bloodhammer tricked me by de-Anglicanizing the title. ...makes sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am

Except for one snowstorm. Winter has been a no show here in Missouri. I want the brutal cold and snow dammit!
  2:09am

Rory- Incidentally, I was speaking of a rain storm! It hasn't snowed much here in Chicago either.

Arvo, it's been the El Nino pattern we've been stuck in. Unfortunately I think Summer is going to suck this year. Very hot and Dry, but I've mentioned before I love when the weather gets extreme. Anyways, new Mondo Macabro release coming out next month called Medusa (1998) another weird greek movie they've been able to dig up at MM.
