Also, is there enough snow out there to make WFMU DJ snowmen/women?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am

You mysticate me, JakeGould.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am

if not you could do what they did in "to kill a mockingbird".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25am
pacific standard simon:

I should read that. After I reread the complete works of Ray Bradbury.
  3:26am
Mark R.:

There's enough snow to build a whole city of men, women, children, dogs and buildings.

This is the perfect twin rhythm guitar valentine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am
coelacanth:

simon i took a week off from a much more challenging book to read "mockingbird". (actually i think it took 4 reading nights)
it's a fast read and thoroughly worth it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am
pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth -- I somehow managed to miss it in high school, although I could see other kids carrying it around. That, and The Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36am
coelacanth:

the computer often underlines words as misspelled, even though they are not. i just found another one. "aeroplane",which "airplane" is a bastardization of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39am
pacific standard simon:

My Kindle responds to words that have different British and USA spellings by marking them both as misspelled. It wants you to pick one as the correct spelling.
  3:40am
JakeGould:

I want to build snowmen of the guys who just hang outside of the newsstand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
coelacanth:

hmm. never read the invisible man. i should do that,no?

...i never read "mockingbird" until last year, but in my youth our family sat around the tv once a year when it came around. it was interesting reading it 4 decades later. many of the scenes and characters i remembered immediately; but i never did understand the story as a child.
...it's really a masterpiece.

"Are you building a snowman outa me? Huh? Betta not!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45am

build a snow-bodega with snow bodega-dwellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am
pacific standard simon:

I'm sticking with the Ray Bradbury until I get it done. Should take most of this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am
coelacanth:

i started to read my sister's copy of "the illustrated man", but it fell to pieces by the 6th page or so and i haven't tried to get another. i did like martian chronicles.
"dandelion wine" didn't grab me, but i may try again.

Thank you. I thought I had bored you all to death. I'm a little sleep-deprived and alternating between angry smashing of things and weeping jags. But I'm having a good time overall. And how's your day/night going so far?

Anybody remember this one? You have to be just old enough and weird enough.
  5:15am
Mark R.:

FYI I'm sticking with the wolves every mic break from here on out. Them wolves were my only friends back when I was on hard times, now that life is looking up, what kind of a person would just abandon them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am

A favorite J. Airplane track. That's Jerry Garcia on the lead riff, BTW.

I had a cassette of this record. No crackles.

That little Spanish riff is the whole reason I wanted to play this version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42am

Mitch Mitchell is one of my favorite drummers ever. If you listen to these things enough times, you can tune out Hendrix and Redding entirely.
Avatar 5:42am
groucho:

10.41am in England, I wake up to news of snow on your east coast, I have a few friends there but my first action was to check WFMU's okay.

I'm glad you're okay
  5:43am
Mark R.:

Me too. I was disappointed he never did much afterward. My older brother saw Randy Hansen, the Hendrix imitator, in the 80s, and was shocked to see Mitch playing drums with him. There could have been so much more to Mitch than his ties to someone who died in 1970.
  5:44am
Mark R.:

Yes, we're OK. We've had a lot of folks pulling marathon shifts and stuff, but we kept kickin' out the jams for ya...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am
pacific standard simon:

I guess Mitch was deeply involved with pulling together the tracks that would have been on the album that Hendrix was working on at the time of his death, so for that I am grateful.
  5:54am
Mark R.:

Yeah, "Cry of Love" was actually one of my favorites. I'm not saying he should have abandoned the Hendrix legacy. He was possibly the greatest musician who ever lived. I just wish Mitch had gotten on with the rest of his life and made music with some other people. It's like a beautiful young woman whose husband is killed and she never remarries. Imagine a fusion band with Mitch and Stanley Clarke and a great guitar player and keyboard player, for example.

Keith Levene can say this is about Lou Reed, but when the song started, I thought it was Sir Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23am

Good morning Mark and listeners
  6:25am
Mark R.:

Morning Fred--thanks for tuning in. Things are about to take a turn for the quieter and more contemplative.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am
pacific standard simon:

A thumb piano is an idiophone. So is a jaw harp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35am

I can barely focus on the keyboard now, so I'm calling it a night. Good luck, Mark R.

Thanks for hanging with us so late, Simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am
fred:

So you're on the air until another DJ makes it to the station?
  6:50am
Mark R.:

I'm on until 9. Either Jeff Sarge will be here then or we have a replacement standing by, in the building. Actually, laying by. He snores.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54am
fred:

That would make for an unusual bed music (the snoring)
  7:10am
Mark R.:

I thought this symphony crap might class the joint up a little. I dunno, wattaya think?
  7:11am

Go Mark, go.
  7:13am

You know, for the ladies.
  7:13am

Me, I like stuff with more of a beat but what the hell...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16am

YMMV, the ones I know tend to play noise or write contemporary classical music

I'm just messing with you, I love this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31am

hello again Mark i've been awake most of this time but i turned you off when you got wild earlier...but i've given up trying to sleep now and been listening for a while again.
  7:33am
Mark R.:

Glad you came back--I think you'll find the rest of the show more to your liking. I'm not feeling that wild any more.
  7:38am
Mark R.:

Maybe a little weird, but not that wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41am
fred:

For some reason that Jacob Garchik track reminded of Jen Shyu. I'll be off figuring out what she's up to for a short while...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47am

i'm all for wild -and weird. in fact both are more my usual...just not when i'm trying to get to sleep!

  7:58am

That's nice of you to say. A lot of people pulled long duty Saturday/Sunday. Todd-o-Phonic Todd pulled two shifts separated by several hours. I think that's even harder. Good think everybody around here digs music so much!

Yeah but you were on there too yesterday. Kudos to you my man!

listening at 90.1 - i don't hear any crackle to speak of.
  8:12am
Mark R.:

Very well then, Jarrett marches on!
  8:12am
Will:

One pro-crackle vote here! Especially if it's the Koln Concert. Doesn't sound as bad as you might think, Mark.
  8:13am
Mark R.:

I had headphones on, listening loud. It magnifies every flaw. Over the speakers it's a little more manageable.
  8:14am
Mark R.:

A well-loved album--like a teddy bear whose fur has been hugged off, missing an eye. This is my wife's album, actually. It pays to marry a girl with good taste in music. I would have bought this album, anyway. Think how much Schlitz I was able to buy with that $8.99.
