i ws watching fritz lang's metropolis on pbs back in the 70s and it had a score like this bianchi and i was blown away. about a year later i saw it was on again and settled in and the score was ragtime piano. they really were careless with public domain masterpieces back then.

@dale: I know certain people compose scores for specific silent films, and many modern (1970s-after) composers have done versions for Metropolis. You prob saw a special airing backed with someone's special score for Metropolis. Then the next time they just played the standard "public domain" clitter-clack soundtrack since that's what comes with.
