ah, good to hear George.

Hi Therese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am

It's funny -- years ago, I put together a couple of mix CDs of ukulele tunes downloaded from the internet, and there was a version of "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" by someone other than George -- don't recall who it was, though.

Now I want to hear Glen Campbell. Why does Paul Williams' track make me think that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am
pacific standard simon:

Paul Williams, wow... brings back memories of midnight shows of Phantom Of The Paradise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am

Maybe because Campbell has got airplay with at least one Williams tune?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am

ever since Evan's Dr. John show he's everyday at wfmu. it's a good thing.

DrTerminus:

Spent a month working to buy this chinchilla when I was 17, was with this girl Marianne, and she wanted one so bad. She ended up taking him home, gave him away, he died, she wanted to pour chinchilla dust in a cemetery garden for him so we did that. I feel awkward about this at 27.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
pacific standard simon:

Those first two Dr. John records were everyday on San Francisco "underground" FM radio when they were released. After he got an AM hit with "Right Place Wrong Time", not so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am
pacific standard simon:

Process it, DrTerminus.

DrTerminus:

I suppose you're right, pacific.

I hope next year's mascot isn't a snake. That'd be an awkward handover ceremony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am

the 3rd & 4th albums were great too, though; in fact "the sun, moon & herbs" may be my favorite.
...still "underground".

If next year's mascot is a carnivore, just make sure it's well fed before the handover and the ceremony can proceed without incident.

if it's an octopus they can feed it the runners-up before the ceremony.

@pacific standard simon: I remember hearing or reading a story in the late 80s about how Pussy Galore's sound was based on a scratched-up Rolling Stones record one of the PG members had. Said record had been left outside where it was rained on then dried and warped by the sun.

- but my point was that Amy Winehouse makes me feel, and to go from that intense song by a woman who was so talented and with a heartbreaking story to some good-time pop music was not happening for me.
